Deuteronomy 23:4-5 As I understand it, the descendants of Lot did not give aid to the israelites - even hired someone to curse them, so they are not allowed to enter the kingdom of Heaven, correct? But it goes on to say that their descendants even to the tenth generation are also not allowed to enter. How is it the fault of the as-yet unborn children?
Same thing with children of illegitimate marriages Deuteronomy 23:3 it wasn't even the first person's fault who his or her parents were, yet still not allowed, nor are his great great great great great great great great grandchildren?!
How can any of us be sure we are not guilty of that also? I don't even know who my great great grandparents were, never mind even further back.
Sorry, just some things that have been troubling me.

Then you should have continued to read Deuteronomy 24:16. Ezekiel 18:3-26 and Jeremiah 31:3-26 so you could have understood that God have already removed that kind of curse long time ago and it will also tell you that Jesus' death was not necessary to die for the sins of man. Christians invented that for man to stay in guilt and fear.Be not troubled anymore.

It isn't so much that God makes the punishment pass on to generations but that the people pass on the dysfunction themselves.
Often unbelief gets passed down in families. I can trace my roots and find no believers. If I hadn't married into my husdbands believing family, it is a good possibility I wouldn't be a Christian. My husband was not a Christian at the time we were married, but his parents were.
Sin also gets passed down in families. I have three generations of divorce in my family and it will stop with me. I will not pass that curse on to my own children. It hasn't been easy.
I know another family that has multiple generations of alcoholism.
The sinful habits of a family easily get passed on to the next generation.
Pass on a godly heritage for your children. It does help them live godly lives.

It becomes a lot less troubling if you realize it's all myth. You know, like Poseidon having a hissy-fit and drowning the next generation of miscreant sailors for their fathers' sins. It never happened. There was a storm at sea, that's all.
Guilt is a commodity religion loves to truck in. Don't buy any, it's way overpriced.
Hope I have been of some small help.

For the most part, generational curses are accepted voluntarily. Any generation has the power to break the curse through repentance. A good example of a generational curse is poverty. Poverty in the modern era is handed down mostly from mother to daughter. There is always a way to break the curse within the family by a daughter deciding that she is not going to live that kind of life. the same goes with unwanted pregnancies, and this seems to go hand-in-hand with poverty. Acceptance of a curse is a choice and breaking it is also a choice. God has established the generational curse to teach people obedience to his commandments and to rely on him for their provisioning. People who trust in the world for everything are cursed because the world and everything in it is cursed. Blind acceptance of worldliness as a means of survival is voluntary acceptance of the curse of the world, which is spiritual death. This curse is broken through the blood of Jesus, by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and trusting him for all your needs. This has nothing to do with assigning fault or guilt, but everything to do with eternal life in Christ.

God doesn't punish subsequent generations. It's just a myth. The God that I, a Christian, worship is all-loving and forgiving; and God wouldn't hold the sins of your ancestors against you. Remember that the Bible was inspired by God but written down by humans. Humans are falliable, so there are bound to be inaccuracies in the Bible.

You are searching for the answers in the old testament, that is the first problem, when Jesus came, all old things passed away.
Unless you are Catholic, I think, not hitting on the Catholics, just using as a refrence,
Most go by the teachings of Christ and the new testament.

Further proof the bible is in no way about God. It was written by men with an agenda of their own. God is not the biblical monster that so many choose to worship.

They do the same thing in North Korea today and Christians call that barbaric.
But when their god does it, it's righteous.
I have never received a reasonable explanation for this, so don't expect one either.
You know why?
There is none

God is cruel and bitter. He screwed up creation and now he is taking it out on us.
YHWH is not a god of love, but a god of wrath. He is El Shaddai, the Lord of the Mountains. As he proved in the case of Job, he will gladly kill your family and destroy all your possessions to win a bet with the devil.

It's truly unfortunate that the vague, unconfirmed writings of centuries ago are still troubling you today.
