The scripture is:
Joh 14:6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me.
It is my belief he is referring being our Savior and our way to God.

His words were "No one comes to the Father, except through me." He didn't undermine Moses, and since we know that the whole Old Testament was inspired by God with the purpose of revealing His Most Precious Gift, Jesus Christ, it's neither here nor there. People were justified(mad right with God) in the OT the same way. See Genesis--"Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness". As soon as Abe believed God, all of his past/present/future sins were forgiven in an instant. After the appearance of Christ in the New Testament, we just have more of God to believe. We believe His Truth that says no one comes to the Father except through His Son. There is no contradiction here... it's just like when the Atheists tell us we are unwilling to adapt and change like their god, science does. We did do some changin'--it just happened a long time ago! That's because God is Eternal! He has proven time and time again that He has no reason to change. He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow--and worthy of all praise.

He said I am the Way and the Truth and the Life, no one can come to the Father except through me.
He fufilled the message that the profits and Moses spoke of...
He was the Messiah.
The mediator bewteen God and man.
He was the Son of God...
before Moses was ever born, Jesus said, " I AM {I existed}"
He is the only way to God, because we cannot make it to heaven by our own good deeds...
God is too Holy for us, our good works cannot erase our sins..
Only Christ bore our sins, on a cross... only he died and rose again..
so that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead... we shall be saved.

Because he was fully man and fully God. God cannot look upon sin, and we as humans, are sinnful. Therefore we need a mediator. Jesus is the only one who can bridge that gap. When Jesus died there was given a new covenet between us and God. Doing away with the old covent God had with Moses. Jesus died for us not Moses.

Jesus did say that.
When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden, they were cut off from direct contact with God, because sin can not exist in God's presence.
From then on, God spoke to people through visions and dreams given to prophets. People had to cover their sins through sacrifices and offerings.
Once a year the priest would go behind the curtain into the Holy of Holies where God's presence dwelt in order to represent God's people. If that priest carried any sin with him, he died immediately once he passed behind that curtain.
If you remember in the Bible where Jesus died, it says that the curtain in the temple was torn. This represented the fact that, now that Jesus has died as the ultimate sacrafice for sin, people can now come directly to God again through Jesus.

He did not undermine anything. He fulfilled everything that Moses and the prophets were looking forward to, a Redeemer that would save them completely, not just cover their sins from year to year.

Well, that was the idea. Of course, you are what you do. And, Jesus was a messenger. Therefore he might have meant his message was the way. A good parent doesn't really care who teaches his children to get along with each other, just so they do. And God, certainly is our good parent. (regardless of what we call him or her)-
PS: I am not denying all the other great things Jesus did for us. - smiles

He also said he came to fulfill the law (of Moses). Everything about Moses' law points to Christ, as 'the' truth.
