Mine was pretty special. She was a paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair, but she taught her daughters not to give up or give in when life got rough. She had a world-class sense of humor and wasn't afraid to get mad when the situation warranted (she was a little Kentucky red head -- go figure.)

She showed us that ladies can get angry and that we don't have to be afraid of our feelings. She taught me that sometimes the only thing you can do is sit down and have a good cry or a good laugh. . . or a little of both. And she was the working definition of gutsy: she would have left wheelchair tire marks up and down the rump of anybody that messed with her kids, her dog, or her car.

She taught her kids by word and by example how to treat ourselves and everybody else the right way. God rest her. . .she was one of a kind, and I will always love her.

My mother is the nicest person that you'll ever meet. She loves kids and talks to everyone. For my birthday she gave me $100 and let me spend it on anything I wanted. We went to thrift stores and I spent it all on cookbooks and she didn't care. When I went through my surgery she came down and she's the one the watched the clock and basically had my pain meds ready for me every 4 hours. We slept in the same bed because I wanted her close to me when I was in pain. We talk on the phone about 3 times a week at least. We never have anything to say to each other but it's just nice having the connection. I love you Mom!

Someone who takes time to listen to her children.

Someone who kisses all the little hurts and bruises.

Someone who reads a child's favourite bedtime story.

Someone who gives out hugs and kisses everyday.

Someone who says, I love you.

There's so much more that makes a mother special....just don't have the room to write them all down.

A mother who loves her children enough to put them ahead of her own needs, and not whine about it, is a very special mother.

I do my best to be like that.

Mine was certainly only my mother in the sense that she gave birth to me....

I think one who spends time with her children, makes each day fun and special. Gives lots of hugs, kisses, "I love you", and good advice. One who listens and who sacrafices her time and fun for them.
