We know that certain stories in the OT are prophetic pictures of future events, even though they're not labeled as prophecy (such as Joseph's slavery & redemption foreshadowing Jesus' earthly trials & service).

Do you ever wonder whether any events in the NT (also not labled as prophecy), foreshadow future events as well? Lately, I've been pondering the similarities between Acts 13:6-11 and Revelation 13:11-18.

Has anyone else thought of this possibility?

Acid Zebra, if you were a Christian, you'd know we believe this. Since you're not, it's a mystery to you.

I think I get what you're seeing here. Bar-Jesus (Elymas) has the sole purpose of turning man away from faith, the same mission as the second beast, so a picture of the incredible powers of persuasion of the antichrist. Paul's blinding the magician shows the victory to come, albeit a victory already won at the cross.

The fact that he's called Bar-Jesus is interesting. The Jewish Encyclopedia says that the Syriac church objected and changed it to Bar-Shuma (Son of the Word), but I can't see that as a change. One Latin translation calls him Bar-Jesuba.

Now you've got me off on one of those endless searches, where every site has some new bit, so you click again and off you go (instead of working).

Well, earlier in Revelations it was talking about a Beast who will rise from the sea, and your passage in Acts talks about confronting false prophets on Cyprus.

I happen to have the gift of prophecy, and I think God IS telling you something. You need to go on a cruise, either in the Mediterranean or Caribbean, to confront a powerful false prophet before he rises to power. Princess, Carnival, or Royal Dutch Caribbean would be your best bet.

Choose an inside cabin on the Promenade deck. Avoid men in shorts carrying umbrella drinks, who will distract you from your mission. The false teacher will be giving some kind of sermon or presentation on the ship not necessarily of a religious nature.

The fate of mankind depends on you. Act quickly because he will rise like a thief in the night. Make your registration today.

Godspeed and God bless and keep you sister, you will be in my prayers.

I remember this stood out to me so well during hurricane Katrina, when I saw people on the roofs of their home waiting for help..Matthew 24 speaks of the end times and verse 17 specifically mentions people on the house tops...(see also Mark 13:15)..
Also, ...Luke 21, wars and rumors of wars, verse 26: Men's hearts failing them for fear (so much anxiety in today's world)..
Matthew 24: 10-12...many shall be offended (people get SO offended now)...and the love of many shall grow cold (just take a look at this forum to see this prophecy coming to pass).

That is very interesting and I could see how this could indeed be a possibility. It is said the meaning of the end time prophecies would be sealed until the end, maybe this is why some of these are becoming familiar and are beginning to make sense.

Doesn't it make prophesy pretty easy when you don't have to identify at the time you are making a prediction?

Examples
Remember three years ago when I said "Let me go," when you were tickling me? That was actually a prophesy that one day I would ask to be released from jail for my unpaid parking tickets. How could I have known that aside from my divinity, or connection to the divine.

How about when I said 8 years ago to my landscape guy, "That bush needs to be taken out by the roots"? That was my prophesy that one day Americans would see that we were in a needless war that would only create more terrorists, and that many would want Bush removed from office.

Actually these examples are probably more specific than most that you find in the old testment that supposedly predicted events of Christ's life.

What other people do not realize is that the OT is the OT and the NT is the NT; Two separate things, one is history and one is gospel. and the two shouldn't be used as the other.

I dispute the fact that we "know" that certain stories in the OT are prophetic. That is just an opinion. I do not wonder about the NT. Most of that was written for a specific time period, as was the OT.
