Basic training is really like taking a summer camp vacation. You all gather in groups and your camp leaders teach you to be socially compatible. You get lots of fresh air and sunshine. You partake in 3 well thought out meals a day, served in the rustic atmosphere of a muted cafeteria. You will be asked to participate in morning fitness classes and be taken on a few nature walks. The military issue attire will be tastefully fitted to cor ordinate with your new adventure in life. Cell phones are strongly encouraged, especially in formation. You get Kings X for phone calls!! First of all...no..you can't have a cell phone. i wish you could...that would have made my husbands being gone at basic training much easier!!! you only get 1 call a week. Its usually on either a saturday or sunday. You call from a payphone so make sure that you have calling cards.

At basic training you will do a lot of running, push ups, and sit ups...not to mention any other exercise they can think up! haha You march everywhere and will learn to love yelling things with other people. Cadences are quite irritating after a while..but my husband still remembers all the ones he learned at basic because he had to do them so often. You will learn how to throw grenades, how to shoot a few different types of guns...and learn to love your gas mask! haha the gas chamber sucks but....you have to do it. just make sure all your seals are right and that theres no leaks anywhere in it. You will have to climb up a huge wall and repel down....its like a big obsticle course. You will also go out into the field at the end of basic training and learn to survive out there.

hmm....theres so much more but its so hard to type it all and have you understand. You can look up information online about basic training and the different phases of it and what exactly you will do in each phase. i know they are making some changes to basic training so it might even be different now from when my husband went this past september.

Good luck!

they break you spirit. make you indisquishable from one another. they build you from the ground up. make you a better person. part of a team. a necessity. when they are done, you won,t even recognize yourself. you will become something special. as far as phones and such, i wasn't able to call out until week ten. letters in week four. push ups from h--l. best life choice i ever made.

Alot goes on in basic training, the idea behind it is to turn you from a civilian into a soldier.....no ipods, no cell phones, radios, tvs, laptops etc etc. No cigs, drugs, civilian clothes etc etc etc...........

Are you so addicted to a cell phone that this is one of your primary concerns? I would be glad to be RID of mine. Hell, if joining the military meant I couldn't have access to a cell phone I'd probably enlist now.

i'd not take it. they're going to confiscate it and also you gained't see it until eventually eventually AIT (not particular in the experience that they enable cellphones or not). you're waiting to choose on Sundays for the time of common. common is only 9 weeks. until eventually you're counting your AIT/OSUT
