Do people feel unworthy? I don't think so. I think it's because the people that do go to Church (The Regulars) stick their noses in other peoples business. In other words, gossiping and bad mouthing other parishioners behind their backs. Several people have told me that is the main reason they don't go to church. Are all Churches like this?

I always hear that Church goers are hypocrites. DUH!!!!!!! We are sinners. Sinners are the ones that are supposed to be at church. Yep that includes hypocrites. A church is not supposed to be for the perfect. Perfect people don't exist. Its an excuse.
A church is full of individuals. There a millions of Church's and millions of members. Don't like one church find another. Don't like one member- sit on the other side of the church- meet other members of the church.
My church is not like what you are describing. If those people exist I haven't met them.

Because faith isn't about the four walls. It can't be shoved into a building. I am Pagan but I DO go to church, a Unitarian Church and I go for fellowship and teachings of many religions for my kids. But people are still people. You will meet many flawed people in your life. That's just part of life. And yo answer your question No not all churches are like that. I have yet to meet a single person like that at my church.

first, seperate the idea of religion and church being the same. church is a gathering of people discussing religion. it can be as few as two people. the buildings, agendas, and politics of some churches are a turn off to people who just want to experience spirituality.
a church can suffer from the same social dynamics and dillemas that any school or workplace has.
i think the trick to finding an ideal church for yourself is to examine what your personal needs are and explore.
even though there are differences in each denomination, most major religions retain their basic structure.
if you are a Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, etc... find the right denomination for yourself.
if you don't feel welcome at any church, don't go. have a personal relationship with your God. you don't need other people. it's your journey. it's your soul.

I know my church isn't like that. And I'm positive there are other churches that aren't like that either. But "all it takes is a few bad apples to ruin the whole bunch!" And now most people have the same view as you towards church and christians in general. But there are those of us christians that truly don't behave that way and would love for you to visit our churches!

I go to Church weekly. I think it provides a good boost for the rest of the week. I find a big difference in the week when I go verses when I don't go.
Reasons for not going are people sleeping in, not making it a priority, not putting in enough "effort" themselves to get the benefit out of it, feeling that they need to be "entertained," and not taking the time to allow it to be useful in your life. I like Church. It has provided me with a "road map" for life.

for one, its frikken boring. but the main reason (in my opinion) is that christians beleive that "God" is the only one who can judge you. Now you go in that church and see how many busy-bodied people JUDGE you on your looks, and everything you can imagine. Then, as you said, the gossip begins and you have a whole new level of judgement. from the masses aka congregation. sounds hypocritical to me.

I've heard the same thing from family friends.
I choose not to go to church services because I don't agree with the religion.

I think that the problem with people is that their value system, or spirituality has declined. More people are becoming disillusioned with churches as they see them as money making organizations. [have you seen a poor pastor/priest?]
But, if going to church enrichess your life, then by all means do so.

There are hypocrites everywhere, even in the Church. You just need to eat the meat and spit out the spoil.
I choose not to hand around the ones I know are there just to socialize and start problems.
I choose to align myself with real seekers and people who will push me to do my best.

Well im Mormon. I go to church "sometimes" I dont feel that I have to g oto church just for god to accept me! I know he does accept me. My Church is not like that. We are like one big familiy. Its really nice! I have been to other churches as well before i came LDS and none were like that. So maybe its just the people in that church.
