Don't those have a possibility of ripping out if you're put under too much strenuous activity?

If so, then no.

If they told you nothing about messing it up, then yeah... but you'll have to get a waiver.

I've never heard of anyone not being allowed to join for that reason, unless you are on a specific diet that would require you to only eat certain things.
