This is his first family loss. I don't want to talk about her b/c its going to upset him, however I want him to know I am there for him. Should I call his Aunt/Uncle (aunt's mom died) and tell them I'm sorry and ask if they need anything?

I think calling his aunt and uncle would be a nice thing to do. If you want to read up on Jewish mourning rituals, here are some good places to start; be aware that different branches of Judaism and/or personal customs may result in some variations in terms of what specifically is observed.

Saying your condolences will help. Stay silent and try to be there by his side and show that for any moment you are needed, you are there. I don't think you need extra effort to be noticed. If you are not a Jewish, do not pretend to be and maybe you should stay a little far from the rituals unless you are called to be near.

Give the same condolances that you would anyone else. Being Jewish doesn't make us less human.

No, seriously. Live life while you have it.
