Some people chose to be brainwashed or caught up int he facade even after seeing and experiencing what they saw and went thru when they took out their endowments in the temple. The Mormons don't kill people, they are just decieved, the only thing to watch out for is where they put their money in and if their is such a thing as a mormon moffia, also never elect a mormon president.

I don't know and I'm surrounded by them! EVERYONE in my town (just moved to Utah!) is Mormon and they are all brainwashed. My sister converted, but realized what was up and denounced it. My brother is in the process of the same thing after 25 years! I am NOT Mormon and I could go on, but I'd just write a novel and I'd like to think about happier things. Freakin' breeders anyway... LEARN TO DRIVE!
To answer your question, the United Stated of America was filled with people looking for Freedom of Religion among other freedoms. Its in our declarations. Cult religions are allowed to exist because we the people allow it. We condone it. At least the Mormons haven't believed in bigamy for over 100 years. That Mormon cult (isn't even mainstream Mormon!) in Arizona is so inbred that they have a genetic mutation that everyone in the town now has. . Don't worry, it'll kill them soon and we won't have to worry about it.They are a cult within a cult! Weird group of people, it's like they are afraid of sex and yet they train the women to keep getting pregnant. blah blah blah, there I go again on the novel!
By the way, you've probably open up a huge can of worms, just remember that religion is very close to peoples hearts and they will defend it. we all have our opinions and none are wrong.

Have you ever talked with a Mormon so you know what they believe. Mormons aren't a cult, the believe in Jesus and being a christian except the have a few things tha are different. I have never met a mormon I didn't respect. It is not like scientology which is a cult.

There is an excellant book that I'm currently reading "Misquoting Jesus"by Bart Ehrman. It is a New York times best seller. I ,like many other Christians, have questions on the Bible. None of these questions have anything to do with my belief in God. However,I have been studying the Bible,it's origins, proof of the different testimonies and gospels included and excluded and who decided which writings went into the Bible. Who determined what books were canonized? I think we all should be studying to show ourselves approved. When we have differences of opinions and questions, don't get on the defensive with each other and really seek God and books for information to enlighten ourselves or the others on discerning the truth. Just consider how many churches there are. None of them deny God but all have different ways of interpreting the same words. I think the book I mentioned above is a great primer to help us discern the textual truths of the Bible as we know it. For instance,Mark 14;12 ,15:25 says that Jesus was crucified after the Passover meal and John 19:14 says He died the day before it was eaten. There are very many of these contradictions and because they occur felt to be the result of mistranslations from the Greek and Hebrew languages. It is one thing to say the original works were inspired but the reality is that we don't have the originals---so saying their inspired doesn't help us much unless we can reconstruct the originals. At this point in my walk with the Lord,I'm accepting that there are many things we were not intended to fully understand, The more I learn, the more I know I don't know. This doesn't change the importance of God and His Son to me in my life. What it has made me do is examine the origins of the truth so I can answer the hard questions I am Asked about my faith. I think we all are guilty of grabbing on and believing what someone else tells us is true. Studying the word is exciting to me and I learn as much as I can about what others believe before I judge them. My brother became a Mormon 25 years ago. My father converted before he died. No one else in the family has converted. At the time of my brother's conversion,I read the Book of Mormon front to back and prayed as instructed for the Lord to reveal to me if it was true. This was 25 years ago. My brother is very high up in the church. He has his own business, very successful, has raised three successful children, has a woderful marriage(one)and is super smart. I know he lives very close to the Lord. I can't,at this point, believe the way he does but I respect his right to seek the truth. I believe in a loving God that knows when his children's hearts are true. He will correct our paths when we are deceived if our hearts are true. America was founded on the premise of religious freedom. Relax. God is in control. Let Him oust the churces He wants to . God will repay.Just read and study and pray for wisdom of those you fear are lost.God bless

Just because someone or some group does not believe the same as you, does not qualify them as a cult. It would be very arrogant of anyone to assume that what they believe is the only way, and everyone else is false. That kind of thinking should only be left up to God. Ask him about Mormonism, he should know.

I think they have earned the right to call it a religion! 17 years of people stealing their land and burning their homes and treating them worse than African Americans or Indians, and that was 17 years in the early beginnings, not including everything since the founding of UTAH!

Why is Christianity? What makes them any different?
They both deal with fantastical stories that can never be reproduced or proven.
They both deal with God's chosen people and magical angels that talk to only certain people.
They both think that their stories are true, and that every other religion is delusional (also evidenced by your question -_-)
So? Answer the above question, before asking your own.

Being a "religion" doesn't count as "standing". It's not exactly a high aspiration.
Mormonism seems to me pretty typical of religions.

Because they are good with money. Since 1985 they have collected $201 million in humanitarian donations and have given out $705 million in humanitarian assistance.
Sure not a great answer, but what do you want?

Why is every religion that you are not is a cult?
We have freedom of religion in this country and we would like to keep it that way. If you want to fight over religion go to Iraq.
They love to fight over religion.
If you think they are a cult? don't join?
But keep it to yourself we don't want to hear about it.
Not a morman, but believe in freedom of religon.
