When I select "Best Answer", I usually give it to the friend with the lowest number of points or the smallest percentage of "Best Answers"?

(This is a religious and a non-religious question, of course.)

Dear Manu, good point. I still read all of them, well most of them (not those huge copy and paste jobs). I said "usually" but like "Lucky" said, it is probably my Orangutan logic; compassion wins out over logic.

Dear "Hot" - I just read his answer to one of my questions. I was so happy, he gave a good to great answer, and he was also low on the totem pole.

Whatever it is, I have almost the same problem. I've really been trying lately to make sure I give more best answers to the many wonderful Christian regulars of this forum, but I mostly give them to atheist friends. Which is not to say that I don't love my fellow atheists' answers, but I know i'm not always being fair. I'm trying, though...

I don't think there is anything wrong with that, in fact I appreciate it : )
Unless there really is a "correct" answer from another person, I'm sure we'd all understand if that was chosen as best answer.
I don't know that anyone questions who is selected for best answer, it's a completely personal decision on the asker's part.

I hope you are doing well now. Sorry to hear you were under the weather.

Uncle wayne,

It shows that u are very kind. Very nice of u.
But im not sure this kindness is essential to be shown here. Our purpose of asking questions here is to get answers and to be enlightened about things that we might be ignorant about. "Best answer" is only a way we show appreciation to the person who took the pain and spent some time and energy to write an answer for our question. I do not see eye to eye with ur idea of giving it to someone with the lowest points or smallest percentage of "Best answers". Why do u have to do that? I have low points, but i wouldnt want someone to give me "best answer" points just because i have low points. What if my answer was silly or didnt help u in any way? I would want to get those points only if my answer was the best, if it worthed it. I would want to earn those points. That would feel nice, than getting it out of kindness or charity. I do not mean anything sarcastic here. Its just my view. Its really ok to give the "best answers" points to those who did give u the best answers for ur questions.
It is called "best answer" after all, isnt it?

Good time ;-)

You probably want your low scoring friend to appreciate a good, meaningful and useful answer. It is also like sharing with him some piece of knowledge. On certain moments it may also mean that you want to show how superior you are to have asked great questions and got great answers which the friend could not do. I think religion has no direct relevance to this attitude and it is more your personal psychology or values which works. However there is nothing wrong with you.

FI! FI upon thee, thou agent of mediocracy! Thou tramp of warm but yellow gut! Thou singer of false praises! Every Best Answer mustneeds be chosen from only the most excellent answers thou dost find that echo thy own opinion as well!

(That is also a semi-religious answer.)

Nothing is wrong with you. =0)

I used to give most of my best answers to friends who made me laugh the hardest. I got called out for it, so most of my questions go to a vote now, unless it's about someone on this site, then it goes to them.

Nothing is wrong...it is your prerogative to decide which answer is the one you choose...how you do it is your choice and yours alone...commendable way to do it...I just look for the best answer in all the great answers and go with it...but I also try to spread the wealth too...
