i was just wondering
i want to buy a SLR and it says body only, do i have to buy the same brand of lense of the camera? thanks

You can buy lenses from your camera brand, or you can buy lenses made by Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Quantaray, etc. These are usually a bit cheaper (and less good).
If you select something from Sigma/ Tamron/ Tokina, make sure that you pick the version made for you specific camera brand. These guys make lenses for different camera manufacturers, and each camera brand has its own way of connecting the lens.
Often you can get a steep discount on a starter lens if you buy the body in combination with its intended "kit lens". Look into that option first.

They don't have to be from the same manufacturer, but they do have to have the same mount. There are lots of different ones!
