Quantity of legally posessed firearms in the US is not, has never been, and has no reason to be limited. As a result, many of the finest firearms and the truly historic ones are in private collections. Many of these are eventually turned over to museums such as the NRA museum in Virginia (where actor Tom Selleck just donated some, including his "Quigley" rifle) and the Phillips Woolaroc museum in Bartlesville Oklahoma for everyone to enjoy seeing.
Amazing how many people fail to realize that registration of firearms has never been required by law, including the Second Amendment of the US Constitution (other than full automatics under federal law dating back to 1934).
Most communities and states do require a permit, usually obtained from the local sheriff, to purchase a handgun. This is NOT "registration". All new and used firearms sold by a federally licensed (FFL) dealer require a check with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tax and Firearms (BATF) before transferring the firearm to the new owner. Gun-hater propaganda to the contrary, this requirement is exactly the same for dealer sales at gun shows.

There is no limit in any state that I know of, IF they are all registered and legal under the laws of the state where you live. So, basically go nuts and start stockpiling weapons, but first google a guy by the name of David Coresh and read his biography. Then decide.

In the U.S., if you are legal about it, as many as you want.
I used to have a lot, but you know, how many do you really need?
One or two carefully chosen guns should be enough for any legitimate purpose.
If you are a collector, that's something different. If you ever get one of each of every, I'd like to see them. Especially the Colts.

Except in gun control crazy states like NY, Illinois, and CA, you can have as many as you want. There is no limit as far as fed. law is concerned. Limits are set by either the state, or the city.

As many as they can afford. The same as those that own many automobiles.

I think one is too many. Don't understand why it's felt to be necessary in todays times for a private citizen to posses a gun.
