I was stationed in Rantoul at Chanute AFP in the mid-70's and the club on base used to serve up cold pitchers of..... yep, beer & tomato juice. Has any ever had this stuff?
I actually got to liking it and still today, every once in a blue moon, I do one up for my self. I even do it up like a bloody Mary.

Sure! They used to serve it in Wichita, Kansas when I was in college. I think they used to call them "Bull Brews" or "Bull Shots" and you could get them by the glass or the pitcher. They also offered orange juiced mixed with beer!

Wow! Brings back old memories. I hadn't thought about that in years!

Yeah, I think they call it a "red beer" or something similar. I know a lot of people here in Denver who have those quite a lot, especially in the morning, like a Bloody Mary. It's a popular drink for activities such as hunting, fishing, white water rafting, etc- activities where you have to get up really early on a weekend morning.

In Mexico a Michelada is a beer with tomato juice and seasoning. It tastes like Bloody Mary seasoning. I live in Texas and some of the Mexican restaurants here serve them. I like them and find them refreshing when it's very hot.

It is called a red beer. Quite a few people drink it when they have a hangover, or in the place of a bloody Mary if they are having brunch.

Red Eye used to be typically served with a raw egg as well. I used to be a bartender with a very old crowd. The guys would drink this in the morning as a "hair of the dog" after a hard night of drinking.

The "Red Eye" is especially good with a beer that might still be available - called Chili Beer. It is a beer with a chili pepper in the bottle.

Yup!!
Tomato Beer
More or less a fad for a while
I Think it was because of draft beer not always having good taste.
