Hi all,

I just moved into a new house and was wondering if someone can give their views regarding this...

Im not generally a very religious person, but do believe there is a God out there and do pray to God from time to time. Recently i have been told by a few freinds and relatives that I should get my new house blessed? ie get a priest to bless the house.

This is my first house so i dont know what this entails. Has anyone got their new house blessed before. Regardless of what religion you belong too, i would like to know your views and the different ways i can fullfil this ritual or duty.

Thanks in Advance.

Jews afix mezuzas to doorposts (a commandment found in Deuteronomy VI) and say a blessing. The rabbi is often asked to say the blessing.

I'm a carpenter and I build houses everyday. Congrats on your new home. I've learned that whatever you feel while building a house actually goes into the house. If there are a lot of bad feelings while building a house those feelings, energies go into that home. I've seen people divorce after moving into a new home that had a lot of anger on the job site. Now, when we finish a house, I walk thru it removing all the negative energies. In my mind's eye I picture the house glowing and infused with a bright white light. While picturing the white light, I also see all negative energies leaving. It's the same thing a priest does without all the tools. Works every time. Good luck in your new home.

Well, we didn't have a priest or anything. We had a party!!!
We actually built the house, so before the sheet rock was installed, all our family and friends came over and we spray painted on the studs and floor boards, etc...
We wrote prayers and scriptures. Then our friends prayed with us.
It was a fun experience. It was not required, just a fun way to bring us together.

If your house is already built, you can have a house warming party and instead of gifts, ask your guest to bring you an index card with their prayers or scriptures and you could keep them in a scrapbook.

We took tons of pictures!

***I can only imagine whats going to happen when we move and the new owners start pulling up the carpet or tearing down the walls!!!! ***

You don't need a priest to bless your house. Think about it this way. Who would hold more good thoughts and wishes for your house. You or a stranger?

So if you believe in God then you can do it yourself. Take some time and write up a blessing. Just let it come from your heart. Then see your house filled with all the good that you wish for. You know like health and prosperity.

when i was a kid all this weird stuff kept happening at our house. Stuff moving (especially in my room) pillows thrown on the floor, furniture moved etc.
it wasnt as scary as it was annoying so my mother finally got the house blessed. it stopped. the very first house i lived in (without roommates) had an odd feeling about it, so i got it blessed (remembering my childhood) and the feeling went away. a pastor (or priest) basically walked around while we followed him and read from the bible, spinkling holy water along the way. we all prayed. im not super religoius, but i believe in god and his power and all that.
it cant hurt to try it.
nothing bad will happen, its only for good, so you might as well. hope i helped.
btw, people get there house blessed for other reasons besides mine, that was just my experience with it.

We're Greek Orthodox and had our house blessed when we first moved in. We called the priest who blessed us all with holy water and prayers. It was a pleasant and short ceremony. I think these ceremonies help keep communities together and remind us that we are God's people. All I had to do was provide the coffee and cookies and be there.

No, i would just walk around the house when its empty and talk to god. Thats what i did when i went into my house. thats enough. You really dont need a priest, well different views, but i dont reckon you should call one. Just pray and god will know where you are. Hope its a happy home for you. x

first of all think about the following:
who and what kind of people have been living in the house
what spirit has entailed the rooms of the house by previous owner
ways of keeping the house pure from immoral spirit

there is nothing absulety difficult in this task. you can gather with some friends who are christians at your place. then you can together pray about the above points.
if i were you i would say this prayer in each room if i havent got any friends

Lord i pray that you shall cleanse this house from any impurities, from any evil spirit and immoralities that are hidden in every corner. may this house be filled with joy and free from any form of bad spirit. blessed this house and the people who will leave in it. blessed it fully and let there be joy, peace, calamity, and quietness from top to bottom.
thank you for cleansing the house, and i pray that people of this will serve you as they commit their ways to you.
Amen

Nice. We had ours blessed many years ago, the priest just sprinkled each room with Holy Water and prayed that all in the house would be safe from spiritual and physical danger.
Doesn't cost anything.
