I understand where you are coming from, I to have a problem with food. I love to eat and I'll eat to the point where I feel like I'll pop, which is not good at all. I also use food as an escape from my emotions or stress.
I can't tell you what works because everyone is different, but I'll share some of the tools I use to stop myself from over indulging.
STEP ONE is to take a look at why you are eating so much. Are you stressed, board, lonely do you feel comforted by food? If so you need to work on your emotional attachment to food, figure out what you can do to solve the problem instead of turning to food.
Ex: I eat because I get board or because I am stressed. Before I turn to the cupboards or refrigerator I ask myself a question. 1) Do I need to eat because I am hungry or because I am board? Seven times out of ten I am just looking for something to do. If that’s the case, I go around the house a find something better to do. [cleaning, working in the yard, gardening, painting my nails, calling someone to make plans or talk to, running errands ect.]
STEP TWO which is REALLY hard is to keep foods that are not good for you or ones you tend to eat a lot of out of the house. I also shop once a week and buy ONLY enough food for the whole week, it helps me to eat in moderation too! You should try preparing a menu for the week so you know what to shop for and it helps make sure you don’t over buy foods that will aid your addiction.
Ex: I like foods that are sweet, processed and easy to prepare… what I do is replace those with foods with foods that take more time in preparing and purchase fruits to curb my sweet tooth. Peanut butter on red apples hits the spot AND makes me feel better about eating something that is sweet and healthy.
STEP THREE find a friend who is talking about losing weight. Having a friend is like having a support group, if you feel like eating a doughnut call your friend up and tell them that you feeling a little weak and need a pep talk.
Ex: I may not need to lose weight, but my eating habits and portion sizes are of those of someone who needs too. Just because I can eat a lot and not be extremely heavy doesn’t mean it’s still ok to eat like I do. My best girl friend is concerned with her weight so when I am board and thinking pigging out, I give her a call and she always has something to do or say that can take my mind off of food.
SOO step one is to realize why you are eating. Step two is to control your groceries and what you keep in the house. Step three is to find some kind of support system. They have great tips on living and eating healthy and worksheets to help you manage what you’re eating.
It’s not easy to be addicted to food, but it can be beat. You just got to find a system that works for you. I use the above system and it works for me, but I occasionally fall off my own wagon too. When you don’t stick to your plan remember NOT TO BEAT YOURSELF UP, it’s ok to make mistakes. If you beat yourself up for eating too much, it only going to make you feel worse and want to eat more. Instead of feeling like you have failed, remind yourself that you human and as a human we make poor decisions sometimes. Instead of beating yourself up, tell yourself that you made a mistake and try not to let it happen again.
ALSO, try to eat in smaller portions. This allows your stomach to slowly go back to its normal smaller size causing you to get fuller faster. Try not to cut out everything you love all at once too, this will cause you to be unhappy and make it harder on you too. Allow yourself a treat when you have reached certain goals [big or small goals] as to encourage yourself to keep going.

Don't use the word, "disorder" and stock your fridge full of healthy food. Apples, oranges, whole grain bread, milk, orange juice, beans, soups, carrots and celery, potatoes (yeah, with the toppings), apple sauce, tuna fish, yogurt, fish, peanut butter and bananas, whole wheat pasta (or spinach pasta), rice, fig newtons, almonds, popcorn, Snyder's Hard Pretzels, chicken (precooked, even)...get the drift?

you my friend are not by yourself. You, me, and a million other are to.I guess there is a 12 step program for us but i can't do that again,damn, I just did that with alcohol and drugs.I sure wished I could afford that operation where they take one half your stomach. I do'nt know what to do anymore. I will be praying for all of us.

what is so wrong with therapy? aside from the fact that you probably don't want to pay for it? So spend less on food and use what you save to see a therapist.

try excercising or take up something...go 4 walk or run or whatever to take ur mind off food!!good luck...
