It would be nice but I am concerned. First off the P.C people, would like it to be considered a hate crime. If this is done in the wrong way our courts will be flooded with law suits trying to ruin the livelyhood of well intentioned employers. Second how will average employers be able to tell the difference between real ID's and fake? If it is a good fake ID and fools the employer, will the employer be held responsible even though they made an honest effort to do as the law dictated? So yes I am for enforcing the law, but we have to be careful not to hurt the wrong people.
If we are ever able to enforce these laws again I think it will help stem the tide. But just as outlawing murder hasn't stopped murder there will always be law breakers.

I don't think making it a felony would help. These illegal aliens know what they are doing when they come over here. They know they are comitting a crime, they know that most of us feel they are taking our jobs away, and that we don't want them here, but yet they still come.
So by making the hiring of illegal immigrants a felony, a lot of innocent people and businesses will be hurt, and the problem will still exist. I think first and foremost, working with the leaders in some of these countries and helping to fix things so that the citizens don't want to leave would be the best solution.
The second solution is to put up a big wall. Similar to the great wall of china, enforce it with barbed wire and armed guards patrolling and observing it 24/7 365 a year. I'm sure there are folks needing the work and wanting a solution to the immigration porblem bad enough that they would be willing to patrol the borders.
Lastly, we as citizens should really pull together and fight our congressmen on this issue, they are our worst enemies in this thing with immigration. We should fight for our right to not have our wages driven down by illegals, we should fight for our rights to not want our wages garnished to take care of illegal immigrants who come and leech off our system. we should make a big stink until they realize that we want a resolution and we want it now. Making a fuss about the oil prices wouldn't hurt either. If there was a way to boycott and not use gas or oil for a time, the gas prices would have no choice but to drop in order to regain the business sales.
Hell, it worked for Martin Luther King and them when they boycotted the buses! However it is done, something needs to happen soon. Before long, the immigrants are going to push their way in and we will be answering to them!

That would probably get more people hiring illegals. The laws of economics. If the employers are under threat of felony prosecution of hiring an illegal, they will do so only for the cheapest of rates (risk vs. gain, if they can hire cheap enough then the potential reward outweighs the risk at least in the short term). The illegal workers will start working for less money which will make hiring them even more attactive.
You might get different results with giving them a legal way to enter the country to work and having minimum wages. That would give the illegals incentive to become legal. There would still be illegal workers sneak in, but if you had the choice of coming in legally and making more money and having certain legal benefits and protections than if you had come in illegally or coming in illegally and making a lot less, which would you choose? The numbers of these legal workers would go up and the numbers of illegal workers would go down. The companies that make the big money off of illegals would find that there are less of them to hire, which would cause the amount they pay to illegals to go up due to supply and demand.

Here's the problem. Who do you file felony charges against? The hiring manager? The company? The person in HR? What if they did a check and their check didn't reveal that the alien was using forged identity (often the case). It wasn't until they had an article in the paper locally, that a lot of employers have their hands tied as to what they can check without getting charged with invasion of privacy, that I realized how complicated it can be. This is very different from an individual who hires a nanny or gardener or a person tries to get work at a place that contracts with the military. THEY can get more thorough investigations.
I agree that employers who knowingly hire illegals should be at least fined, but at the same time, you have to give them the tools to prevent themselves from being at risk. Finally, the current laws need to be enforced!

It is already against the law to hire illegal immigrants. It has been on the books for YEARS.
The problem is, nobody enforces the law. The government looks the other way while manufacturers, agribusiness, hotel industry and others continue to hire this cheap labor force from street corners and other places. If the government would arrest, fine, lock up and close some of these businesses, they might stop. But we know how they government feels about business, don't we. All they do is wink and nod.
If there was no work for them, they wouldn't come. But until big business starts paying the penalties for breaking the law and stops hiring them....it's all yadda, yadda, yadda.

No because they will just pay them under the table. That doesnt fix anything.
They should punish the company with huge fines (millions) or just shut the company down instead of a little slap on the wrist and take the illegal employees away. You better believe if legal people lose their job because the company got shut down for hiring illegals they will be pissed at the company.

There already is a law against assisting illegal aliens. Nobody enforces it. Simply because by the time you finish the paperwork, they are out of jail. They are told to report to court at a later date for the hearing. Then they skip town and are not heard from until their next arrest. It's a lot of work for no results. The problems lie higher up the government chain.

Yes, if they cant get a job or suck off our social system, they will self deport.. If Companies hiring illegals , were publicly exposed,it would help drive them out of business. Just require
a Valid Passport, from employees, to make sure they are not
illegals.
