Isn't the need for them at their inception obvious?
Hasn't that need waned with the advancements of science, government, and civilization?

Many religions preach "How to live (what they call) a good life...."

Some religions preach "How to get to (what they call) heaven..."

Some religions preach "How to become reconciled with (who they call) God..."

So they're built on different principles.

There have been MANY advances in science. Some have resulted in good things, some in bad things. I don't mean philosophically - I mean things like food preservatives, microwaves, styrofoam... stuff that seemed to add some great conveniences to our lives, but also brought with them things like cancers and other medical as well as ecological ills.

However, THE REASON for a relationship with Christ is for salvation.

When science, government and civilization can come up with a way to make a substitute for the sacrifice of Christ, then the need for Him will have waned.

No, for instance in traditional Islam it states that non believers (infidels) are not worthy of life. That the believers (Muslims) shall take their lives and for that they will be rewarded by Allah in heaven. How's that for the religion of peace.

No, they are NOT--unless they teach that Jesus is the Son of Man.
And that no one gets to Heaven, but through the blood of Jesus that He shed on the cross.

I Just HAPPEN to believe in the Bible.

IT WORKS!
PEACE, JOY, CONTENTMENT--WHO would not want it?
