We have spilled our blood for our beliefs; we have crossed into enemy territory to give bibles to people who were risking their lives to read those mere “books”. We have taken persecution, prosecution, hatred, misunderstanding, misconception, doubt, to stand by what we believe in! I hear people spouting their venom towards Christians but let me ask you would you risk getting your head chopped off to take someone a book on evolution? Would you risk being shot by a Nazi firing squad to take them Darwin’s book? Would you take others lives into your hands, risk your life, to defend that we came from apes? We have defended our beliefs for thousands of years; died willingly. Since 1859 (When Darwin published 'On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection) you have had to defend you beliefs, we have defended ours for thousands of years! Why would so many shed their blood for something not worth defending? Why would something of little relevance last so very long through so many attempts to kill it out? You say we have no back bones? You say we have our heads in the sand? Why because we are open minded enough to see something beyond our noses? Christians are imperfect, yes, because we are human. We can be hypocritical, judgmental, prejudice, and hurtful. And no it is not right. But how dare anyone who sits behind a computer with the purpose of starting conflict in a religious forum dare call any Christian spineless. Every single Muslim, Hindu, Baptist, Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, has had to defend their faith. Be it on the computer, on the street, in their work place, school, where ever we have had to fight. And that makes us spineless? The ones who do the attacking here claim to follow science. Have you conducted the experiments yourself? Have you? Or did you read a text book or news paper article? For every belief I have I have solid PROOF. And not the kind found in a text book or class room, but from first hand experience. No one has the right to belittle the blood shed for my Father and by my Father. God loves even the people that attack Christians, but that does not in any way make it ok to keep attacking us or any religion for that matter. It is fine to believe different, it takes all kinds to make the world go around. But it seems some of us really are still apes.

Yes I ranted. Something someone said really ticked me off. But as a Christian I to can get angry! I have a back bone, so do all of you that believe in God, or what ever it is you believe in. it makes me so mad when people don’t see how strong you have to be to be a Christian or follow any faith. So why is it ok to be called spineless when we fight everyday for what we believe in? And don’t take offense please. That was for someone on here that I know.

Svetlana…..I am not speaking of the awful things that have been done in the name of religion. Those I find deplorable and misguided. I'm talking about people that have risked their lives to save others.

That rant wasn’t about forcing people to believe the way I do. No one has the right to belittle my beliefs or yours for that matter. But respect would be a nice thing. I will give the atheists this. I believe in evolution, I just believe that God made it happen. My views are a little more skewed then most Christians (but I believe in what there is proof towards). For every religion floating around out there though, no one has the right to tell you that you are wrong. I don’t care if you are praying to your dog. I just really hate being insulted.

To anyone I offended I am sorry. I was not trying to. Nor was I trying to convince people to believe the way I do. I don’t want to be one of “those” Christians. I respect others views because I learn from them the more they differ from mine the more I can learn. I just demand the same respect of others. I know what I have been through as a Christian and what others have been through. I don’t like to see anyone’s hardships belittled. I am a firm believer in knowing that of which you speak! Why don’t more of us think that way?

I like this girl! Are you married?

I knew the late Pastor Richard Wurmbrand who authored the Book "Tortured for Christ". He was a messianic Jew(Jewish Christian)....He spent 14 years in Romanian Prisons under both Nazi and Communist occupations. He was mercilessly tortured for being a Jew and Christian for 14 long years...yet did not deny the Lord Jesus so as to obtain immediate release. I have personally seen the terrible marks of torture on his body....He responded to his captors with only love...and continued to minister to others. Three of the 14 years were spent in solitary confinement in a cell that was about 4' x 8' dimentionally......

Though his body was riddled with deep holes in his torso and back from red hot pokers that were inserted in his flesh(and many other terrible tortures physcial and mental) he eventually was released and migrated to the US with his wonderful wife,Sabina. They, founded an organization known as "Jesus to the Communist World"(The Voice of the Martyrs').

Whenever I talked to he or his wife, I felt that my Christian experience was almost insignificant....it seemed as though I was conversing with the Apostle Paul.

Richard and Sabina both spent time in prison for their faith, and emerged even more convinced of the Love of Jesus Christ for his children and bride.....There must be a reason....They experienced God on a level that many of us Christians may never realize.

I don't know about the term "zealot", but I teach from the manuscripts. It's obvious that you already think you have it all figured out, so why the question I wonder?? I have the leg bone of a baby dinosaur and the tooth from a mammoth, in my office; if what you are asking is whether Christians believe in dinosaurs, the answer is an absolute yes. I take students on arch. digs six times a year; we celebrate any findings because we know that there is no controversy between true Science and Scripture. I realize there is a group who says that the Bible states this Earth is 6000 years old..blah..blah....but actually the Bible says no such thing; in fact, it states quite the opposite: that this earth is eons in age and that there was even an entire earth age before this one we live in now. You will find as you mature, that laughing at people instead of opening your mind to other perspectives, will get you nowhere fast. You will stagnate and learn nothing. Of course, that hurts nobody but you, and one thing I know very well as a Christian, is that even God Himself will not deny your right to sail your ship as you please. Bon Voyage, Captain. Evolution: God put it into action and it is an auto-pilot, autonomous system at work. Dinosaurs: they were here and now are extinct. Outer space: thats the thing you see if you look straight up in the air (???) Do you need a dictionary or something?

I would never say that all Christians are spineless. I know better. Many of my closest friends, family members, and heroes are Christians. Our Humanist community partners with Christians on community service projects on a regular basis. Those Christians are anything but spineless. They're patriots, inspired by their faith and love for their neighbors. But don't disparage the rest of us while defending yourself; that makes you no better than the person who angered you. Look at the vitriolic responses from people like Phil4JC, FC, and newjdguy, spewing disdain for non-god-believers and using the very words that set you off.

Science doesn't require fanaticism; it stands on its own merits.

As for your most revealing quote:
"Why would so many shed their blood for something not worth defending? Why would something of little relevance last so very long through so many attempts to kill it out? "

That could be said for Muslims and Hindus as well, yet most Christians would not consider their beleiefs worth defending... and the bloodshed being wrought in the name of Allah today, and Jesus throughout history, is nothing to be proud of, nor does it provide any substantiation of the merits of the cause.

And where are the insults or hatred in my response, or in Mark's above?

Yeah, and some of us haven't learned about paragraphs either. They are handy.

But to the question:

1) Atheism was around long before Darwin published "On the Origin of Species". When we are discussing a subject, we should compare things that relate to each other.
2) We have to fight to maintain proper science education all the time. Creationists, instead of pursuing a scientific basis for their beliefs, choose instead to rename it or try things like "Teach the controversy" even though they are the only ones with any controversy in their heads because they cannot accept what the evidence is trying to tell them.
3) You don't think our blood has been spilled because of our beliefs?

The real spineless ones are the ones who take the easy road and believe nothing. This way they can rape, murder and pillage (don't take that literally) their way through life without having to feel that one day they will have to account for their actions. If they choose to believe something it's soft and fuzzy like nature because a tree will never make you have to stand before it to listen to what you did in your life.

I think the word I am looking for is "Jeremiad".

Applause, applause. The very nature of your question proves your point. The atheists are the spineless ones because they are fearful, challenged and threatened by the Light of reality, and try in vain to put the Light out because it exposes them and their kind. They have tried and failed, and will try again to destroy the knowledge of the truth so they do not have to face it.
