You can do what i did when i was in elementary school. I used the shoe box method.

Material

1.) 5 Pair of socks
2.) Shoe box
3.) Cotton balls
4.) Newspaper
5.) duck tap
6.) Rope

steps

1.) Put the egg in a sock and then but another sock over that one making a layer. (you will have a total layer of 10 socks)

2.) Fill the shoe box with the cotton balls and the newspaper.

3.) Take the lid of the shoe box and turn it to were the bottom part is facing you. now get 4 pieces of rope and tape each piece of rope to one corner of the box ( Note: you should still be able to close the box)

4.) Make a square poach and connect the four ropes to the corners of the poach.

5.) Place the egg with the layer of socks around it in the box.

The poach is using kinetic energy to slow the egg down with out cracking it.

If you can get the egg to drop the same way every time, your life will be a lot easier. This means if your device is weighted at the bottom, it will make sure you only have to cushion the egg in one direction. For padding, there are tons of soft things out there-try wool or cotton balls. Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap are cheap things to pack stuff in; there are plenty of household items which cushion as well or better that just cost a little more.

i did this project, you suspend the egg in the middle of a box by puching a hole on each side on the same plane, put the egg in a piece of pantyhose, run it thru the box then tie it in place, then secure it with another piece running perpendicular to the first one, mmkay?
