False prophets will know there are supposed to be false prophets and will attempt to address your concerns.

If they change the message of the Bible they are false. : )
For example Muhammed is a false teacher, a self claimed prophet.

God has given you brain, now it is your turn to use it, human mind is the only thing which can differentiate truth and lie.
Not all you see is truth and not all you hear is true, thorough analysis will show you the truth.
Also any spiritual person has to be very calm, will never talk about Money, or any favor in return. there are many great characters tics for prophets. Check and verify them.

I know who a false prophet is by comparing him/her to what God says in His Word, the Bible. If their message is different, I know that they are not teaching God's Word.

1 John 4:1-6
