I was once a Wonkaist and believed all that nonsense about each true believer inheriting a chocolate factory after death and it being run by 72 virgin Oompa Loompas. Boy was I a dope for falling for that--but I was very young and easily snared by the promise of a lifetime supply of chocolate.
Big fan of the musical from the 70s. Gene Wilder was perfect and the songs were magical. I have very little good to say about the Burton film except that it was nice to see the scene with the squirrels from the book played on the big screen. I certainly understand why they couldn't do it in '71, and the "bad egg" scene was at least as clever, but I like the squirrels. I have no idea what Depp was attempting with his freakish portrayal of Wonka, but I didn't get it.

Why is it evil?
There are principles that work there.
Please define why it is pure evil.
thanks.
Edit: OK, he didn't worry about the kids as he knew they would eventually be OK, he put consequences to actions and let them choose. Most choose the wrong way and paid for it for a bit of time. No permanent harm was done, although they just might have learned a lesson. There was a MESSAGE loud in clear throughout. It would only be misunderstood if you didn't pay attention. Evil, by definition, no.

It's cool to watch when you've been awake for 47 hours and you need sleep but the only thing you can do is laugh because your brain is numb from the awake-ness.

The tunnel was a bit odd.
But it was all an acid trip anyway.
