that's because low intensity exercise is not optimum for fat loss...

when you exercise at a low level of intensity (walking, lifting light weights, etc.) there is very little of an increase in the resting metabolic rate. you may burn fat during the actual training session but the body will utilize more sugar for energy after training. when you exercise at a high level of intensity the body will utilize more glucose during training but the metabolic rate is increased for hours after exercise. sprinting has a pronounced effect on the EPOC while walking does not.

training at a high level of intensity has always been optimum for fat loss.

For short distances (sprit events) walking would do little to help make you faster. Sprints are basically anerobic in nature requiring a quick burst of speed over a very short distances. So Strenttht training and interval running is really the best training.

While you do need a little distance work just to build aerobic capcity, you don't need to run long more then 20 minutes. You need to work on weights on your lower legs as well as interval training.
