Actually,it's the NASCAR crowd that is narrow minded. Not all of them, but the vast majority. They think because nascar is more popular, the nascar drivers have more skill.Calling nascar fans RACE FANS,is just plain wrong. Most of them only follow nascar.

I lilke Nascar and NHRA. I grew up watching Nascar then my husband introduced me to NHRA. I LOVE both of the sports. I don't know much about F-1 and the others. I think alot of it depends on where you grow up. I am from the south and you mainly hear nascar, nascar, nascar and nothing else. How many of the other types of racing ever make it down in the "true south"? I'm not putting the others down i just have not had the chance to see these guys race. I would be open to going to any of these if I had the chance. They do have good drivers. Look at few who have made the cross over. Juan Pablo Montoya has been awsome this year in nascar. So what I am saying is that not all race fans are narrow minded, that we haven't been exposed to these other types of racing as other people.

Why just one but not another? Because, as you said there are so many variations. The keys to what one likes or doesn't like often is a matter of those variations. While all forms of auto-racing come down to piloting a car as over a distance as quickly as possible, you can find extremely different elements that require different skill sets in order to be successful.
A driver or team that is successful in ALMS would not be well suited to go drag racing, and a Rally driver and support crew would not do well at the Indy 500. While some forms can be more demanding on some skills or more physically demanding, there is no doubt there is alot of skill and strategy involved to achieve success.
For me personally, I find more excitement in the process of setting up a pass and carefully working it through. I enjoy the strategic and technical issues that come with a wider range of car specs. These keys ultimately mean that some series are not among my favorites, while others are.

I like most racing. NASCAR being the one racing series that I don't like. I've been on an oval and it actually is fun to drive. I just think that NASCAR is closer to sports entertainment, like professional wrestling, than it is to real racing. Throwing cautions when the pack spreads out too much. This has been discussed by many of the drivers. Lucky Dog pass? Just silly. The comment about them racing cars that are similar to what you can drive. You can't be serious. There is nothing 'stock' about stock car racing. There isn't much if anything that is shared between the NASCAR and OEM versions of thsoe cars. If thats what you're looking for, Speed touring cars are much closer.
I think WRC and AMA Superbike are my two favorites right now. With ALMS and Speed Touring Championship a close second.

I feel the same way as this
Series like F1, indycar, champcar, and ALMS are REAL racing series. Nascar is the WWE of racing. Its a total joke. Even tony stewart thinks its rigged. The fans are a bunch of STUPID rednecks. i.e. - last weekend at talladega! I cannot believe how stupid nascar fans are throwing beer cans at the cars. What a bunch of fools. And by the way: F1 is the most popular racing series in the world, NOT nascar. Bottom line- nascar is a total joke.

For me Rally is the ultimate driving. Road racing, Stock Car, F1 don't all add up to rally in my book. They're fun, but just not the same.
Road racing, F1 and other styles like this you contend with the same turn over and over again only on tarmac and maybe with a little rain now and then. And stock car racing is all about hanging with the boys. But I've always been a loaner.
Now Rally is the ultimate driving experience. Here is a brief list of why I think its better than all other racing.
1. Adverse weather conditions. We'll race in snow, ice, mud, dirt, tarmac, at night (with no course lights), during the day, Fog, hail, or what ever else may come our way.
2. Un-definable courses. Wait until the first time you commit to a turn at 90 MPH not knowing whats on the otherside with trees, cliffs and big *** rocks on both sides just before you take it. Then doing 100,000 times every turn over 2 days at 8-10 hours a day. Theres just nothing like it.
3. Making it. If your car makes it to the end and you didn't have to spend the night in the woods digging your car out or watching it burn to the ground, then you did alright.
4. Extreme terrain differences. The COG rally in Colorado is made up of slick mud, long straights cattle guards and is located in savana style high desert region. While Ojibwe is tight and winding on soft soild threw the trees and at night. So each race is very different.
5. Preparing yourself to drive in all of these different conditions at any time is quite a task and is virtually impossible except for the chance of gaining some experience.
6. Air time threw trees at night.
7. The car is never the same. After spending a weekend driving over rocks, tree stumps, goats, jumping the thing and just plain old beating it up. It never drive like the day you bought it.
So thats the difference in my book. Or you could drive the same track over and over again. Which is still fun, but I like things intense.
Can I get a "Whoop Whoop" from my fellow ralliest?
later.

Personally I like it all. However, we hear in the states have much more access to Nascar coverage so it is easier to follow the weekley drama of that series than all the rest. But as long as it is competitive, even at the local dirt track, I like to watch.

Our generation did not live through the changes. Its much easier for us to be opened minded. I would imagine that back when the change was happening, the traditional players/listeners were more scared that their beloved music was vanishing to a new craze. All those years of jazz tradition being possible flushed down the toilet to some crazy outlandish new sound? I am sure it created a minor hysteria.

I love all racing.I'll watch cars, boats,go karts, motorcycles it doesn't bother me.But I do prefer some forms of racing over others others. But I do agree there are alot of fans that claim to be race fans but are really just Nascar fans,F1 fans, etc.Which I guess is fine, whatever trips your trigger.
