Oh wow, you really need a new doctor!!!! Do that immediately. I cannot BELIEVE his recommendation that you get a girlie movie to address your panic and anxiety. This is malpractice.
You can find people in your area who can refer you to docs if you call 1-800-950-NAMI, an advocacy group for people with mental illness. www.nami.org.
It could be agoraphobia, or borderline if you think that description fits you, but only a COMPETENT doctor can tell you. I'm sorry you're stuck with a bad doctor! You can switch.
I really hope this helps! you can contact me if you like.
Good luck!

Wow, you definitely need a new doctor. A doctor should never tell their patient to go get a girly movie. Try someone new and also take a look at your diet. A diet full of junk and soda ( especially soda and food containing aspartme ...google it if you want to read about it.and ALL the symptoms it can cause in some people ...also the sweetener sucralose) isnt good for the body or brain in certain people who dont tolerate additives very well. Do both. See a new doctor and check your diet out. Good luck , I hope you find a solution to your problem......Edit: I just found a list of symptoms from a best answer on a previous question about aspartame. Anxiety and panic attacks were listed as symptoms by people who used aspartame. While its possible that this is not the cause of your attacks, its worth checking out.

I suffer from agoraphobia and panic disorder as well. Medication has helped tremendously. The biggest thing is getting out of the house and to see a psychiatrist. Do you have someone that can pick you up and drive you to an appointment? That will be very hard but you can do it, I promise. The meds will start helping in a week or two and life will start to improve. Hang in there!

Get some real help. I don't know what kind of doctor you are seeing but you need to find a serious psychiatrist that will help you deal with your problem and treat you with adequate medication until the whole problem is resolved. Don't try to diagnose yourself, that's dangerous and it doesn't help you at all. Take care.

You need to go see a psychiatrist. Anxiety and panic attacks can be treated well.
Be very careful about self-diagnosing any kind of mental illness. Like a horoscope, it is easy to believe that you fill criteria for certain illnesses. You really need the unbiased opinion of a qualified practitioner.
Either way, this is not the forum to seek a diagnosis, so find yourself a psych consult and all the best

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

shame, that must be a terrible thing to experience. try find another Dr. this one seems to be interested in your business and nothing else. get someone in your family to get you a very light calmative/sedative like biral which is available without a script and once you feel a little calmer, get someone close to and someone you are very comfortable and feel safe with to take you to see a psychologist. its a deep root causing this problem and only a professional can help you get over it. its because people dont understand it that they try telling you its just an act or its just being silly.
iv also been through something similar but no one else in the world will ever know EXACTLY how its affecting YOU.

read up on Agoraphobia, this sounds more like your problem. And a doctor isn't really equipped to deal with it, you need to consult a psychiatrist.

i think you are thinking about panic attacks in the wrong way.... what you consider a panic attack is the same thing as a child crying and pan icing.... a panic attack happens when someone does not know what to do... or cannot help themselves.... a child is in this situation all the time and relies on a adult to raise them... a panic attack or what you consider a panic attack happens all the time to children.... so yes it exist in babies... because they are being raised and do not know what to do when confronted by almost any situation...
