No; car remotes typically use either radio frequencies or infrared outputs. Neither will generate a magnetic field.

CRT's (Tube TVs and monitors) and speakers both can create a magnetic field. If he likes to leave his keys on top of a TV, or a computer monitor, or a speaker, that might be causing the problem.
