The safest car is the one with a good driver. It sounds like a dumb answer but I drive a truck and without defensive driver training I would have been in a couple of not at fault collisions. Insurance fraud is a major cause of accidents behind speeding.

The safest vehicle is one you can comfortably and easily controll. NO technology can truly make up for blind spots or poor controllability. Volvos, while are known for their safety, are terrible for visability, they often have many blind spots, and you must rely on mirrors especially when changing lanes, wich is UNSAFE. Like i said the safest vehicle is one you can AVOID an accident in. That said, technology can be very helpful, airbags are good but look for ones that you can turn on or off, because airbags are VERY dangerous for children.

I agree with "Greg", and disagree with anyone who recommended an SUV or minivan. I feel that SUV's and minivans are nothing more than overpriced road hazards. The ONLY sensible use for a truck of any kind is to frequently haul things ( ie: lumber, equipment, trailers, etc) with. In my opinion, your best overall safety/value would be found in a Subaru station wagon or sedan. Subaru consistently scores high (safe) in crash tests, and are built quite well. Cars have a better stance on the road, therefore it should always handle better than any SUV, or certainly any minivan. People who drive SUV's often develop an attitude to do nonsensical things like cut people off, tailgate, corner too quickly, and drive into high water with them and get into trouble. In a car, you can pull into parking spaces easier, and blind spots are normally less than that of other vehicles. A car will get better fuel mileage than SUV's or minivans, and parts such as tires and brakes are usually much less costly to replace. Finally, there isn't nearly as much over-rated technology in a Subaru like that found in many of the other late-model cars these days. I would rather drive the car myself than rely on sensors and a computer to do it for me. These are just some notes and opinions I wanted to share with you on the subject.

Volvos and Saabs are very well designed cars, and protect their passengers well, I'm told. But the safest car in the world won't do a thing for you if you drive it like an idiot. I would consider getting any well-built modern car from one of the major manufacturers, and drive it sanely. You can't protect yourself from the random idiot no matter what you drive, but you can avoid speeding, succumbing to road rage, and drunk driving.

Lexus make really safe cars! There is a radar at the front and when it detects you are approaching an object too rapidly, it waits a couple of seconds to see if you will manually brake. If you don't it will start slowing down and gets ready for the impact: your headrest will go forwards so you don't hurt your neck and your belt will tighten itself! There are plenty of airbags!!
The price of the car itself might very disapointingif you can't afford it! it's worth it!

nicely often greater vehicles are safer through fact they often have extra area for impression injury through greater textile. Dont decide for small vehicles, ive seen such a good sort of issues that have long gone undesirable of their so suggested as "risk-free" vehicles. Now i could say pass with averaged sized vehicles through fact they are often what's centred on maximum for crash protection through fact they are the main used form of motor vehicle. vehicles are stable for defense as long as they are mid to vast. yet, to me, identity say a automobile furnish greater protection than that of a truck
