ice clouds studied by aim
NASA is studying ice cloud formations over the poles at very high altitudes, due to the fact they seem to be growing in size. They think that they seem to coincide with our growing environmental problems. I read that one idea to reduce planetary heating would be to construct a giant mirror for reflecting some of that heat back into space. Has it dawned on anyone at NASA that maybe this is earth's attempt at doing so? After all a giant ice cloud seems like the right thing to throw over the poles to keep earths coldest regions cold. Could this possibly be earth's defensive mechanism at preservation of life even if it may be only bacterial? Is this how an ice age starts ? Does anyone agree with my hypothesis?

I have to agree, but ice clouds would not be able to exist over the equator, they would have to start growing in a more hospitable zone unless the planet were to suffer a sudden flash freeze to start off our next ice age or does it take thousands maybe millions of years to occur?

Ice clouds over the poles would be ineffective at reducing insolation as the angle of incidence is so unfavorable. I cannot speculate on the reasons for the existence of such clouds; we will have to see what the NASA researchers have to say about it. There has been talk of orbiting mirrors of some type over the equatorial region (where they would be of some effect) but the cost would be huge as opposed to the resulting change.

Live in a tropical area like Quito Ecuador and on rare occasions the clouds would pull back from the snow covered mountains and let us see.
