There are a lot of famous artists who are detrimental to themselves. There are a lot of famous sports players. But, think about the percentage of those who don't 'make it'. Thoughts on the artists we never hear about that hurt themselves before we/they ever realized their potential. I've survived this long, and maybe there's some other aspect that helps, but it doesn't for me most of the time. I would like to not fall there, and avoided it mostly, but would like to stay away from that avenue.

Does Vincent van Gogh ring a bell? He got injured...
And he only got famous after he died...something an athlete can not do.

Art is not about making a living. If you know your potential (in many cases) that will have to do. It is about making a life.
