I'm not about to do your homework for you, but, if you are looking for a general answer, where you can go to for research information, The Bay of Pigs incident, happened in Cuba, in the 1960's, when a group of military were sent to Cuba, to try and overthrow Castro. Someone tipped the Cuban government off, and they were waiting for the landing and basically captured or killed everyone who tried to land on the shores of Cuba.

As soon as Fidel Castro chased Juan Batista and his mob connected patrons out of Cuba in ?1959? (?New Year's Day 1960?) many other cubans left with everything they could take. Many of them settled in Florida and immediately began planning an invasion to retake the island nation. Our own CIA was intimately involved (as it is in all such things like this for people we consider friends) and even began supporting the training for the invasion.

When President Kennedy assumed the Presidency and as is typical whenever someone new comes into office, the Cuban Invasion plans were presented to him as though it were a well thought out and very feasible operation. Being new, Kennedy did not yet know who all the BSers were in the CIA (and all other agencies of government) and went along.

The invasion took place in the Bay of Pigs with a fleet of oddball boats and training and under-trained former resident Cubans - they even had some small (?private?) and ex-military plane support. It was a hodge-podge of an invasion force that, had it been viewed ahead of time, would have been laughed off the face of the earth.

Well, as typically happens in many military operations, tactical situations went askew from the start, the chain of command lost its nerve (thereby passing decision making up the chain of command) and ultimately Kennedy had to back down when asked to provide 'for real' American military support (mostly air to bomb and strafe Fidel's forces) to sustain the beach landings. Those invaders on the beach not able to retreat were captured by Fidel's forces and the whole thing became a cause celibre for the exiled Cuban Community in Florida.

In other words, President Kennedy was sandbagged into making a decision getting us into a potential war but had the intelligence to back out (almost immediately) when he discovered the real facts of the situation and what a disaster had been foisted upon him by untrustworthy people.

Then President Kennedy authorized a CIA led plan to overthrow Castro in Cuba. The operation consisted of many Cuban refugees and CIA operatives. They used the Bay of Pigs as a landing site. They were smashed by Castro's Troops. It is believed this was due to leaked intelligence and poor planning.
