I have been diagnosed with cluster migraines. They did respond well to Imitrex for a while but I have had one for the past 3 weeks that keeps coming back. My doctor prescribed Medrol dosepack. I am into my second day out of six of this medicine and so far have no improvement in my headache. How long should it take for me to see any benefit from this?
Thank you for your help.

You need to see a specialist (neurologist or headache and pain management doctor.) Weather is one of the biggest causes of my migraines. OTC meds don't work for me. (And you should know that some sinus meds make it worse.) A specialist will help you by giving you strategies and meds to help with the pain. There are preventative meds and special migraine meds for break through pain. Triptans (Imetrex, Maxalt, Axert etc.) are designed to be take at the first sign of a migraine. They work well. There are lots of other things you can do too. Treatments like nerve blocks, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy all have worked well for me. My specialist also taught me to meditate and belly breathe through the pain. No I'm able to reduce the pain by meditating. There are tons of strategies.. your first stop should be a specialist. Good luck.

I really don't care for Medrol. This medicine is for inflammation of your blood vessels in your head. It should of started to work by now.
I have taken this medicine and it never worked for me. I used to have as many as 3 headaches a day. 4-5 a week sometimes.
I usually would end up at the doctor's office or the hospital. I was given Demerol 75 or 100 mg IM and Phenergan.
The Imitrex never worked for me all it did was to raise my blood pressure.
I would call my doctor back if not any better. If the doctor would have the headache he would want someone to give him something to stop the pain.
Good Luck

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis,
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

Medrol, a corticosteroid drug, is used to reduce inflammation and improve symptoms in a variety of disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, acute gouty arthritis, and severe cases of asthma. Medrol may be given to people to treat primary or secondary adrenal cortex insufficiency (inability of the adrenal gland to produce sufficient hormone). It is also given to help treat the following disorders:

Severe allergic conditions (including drug-induced allergic states)
Blood disorders (leukemia and various anemias)
Certain cancers (along with other drugs)
Skin diseases (including severe psoriasis)
Connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus
Digestive tract diseases such as ulcerative colitis
High serum levels of calcium associated with cancer
Fluid retention due to nephrotic syndrome (a condition in which damage to the kidney causes loss of protein in urine)
Various eye diseases
Lung diseases such as tuberculosis
Worsening of multiple sclerosis

As you can see it does not mention headache relief. You should call your doctor and go over this in detail. See if there is some other medication you could take for the migraines. I've enclosed a link that will give you more information on this medicine.
