I never cared much for hip hop but....I guess it's true.
Everything else (heavy metal, thrash, club......) touches on sex, violence.
Country comes to mind as being very Christian....which is why I like alot of it.

I have no problem with music that talks about God. But any music that debases women, or any people, or perpetuates sterotypes (ie calling someone a thug), uses vulgar language, promotes infidelity and violence I can't like. It's not about rythym or sound. I like music of all kinds of styles. But music teaches. And if what the musician says is negative, then that's what we hear. Most of us are old enough to decipher the music and throw out of our minds what is offensive. But why create a song that's like that in the first place? I don't mean this in any way to be rude. But any song that is filled with these kinds of elements is destructive. Why listen? I find the world is filled with enough bad to let it permeate the music I listen to also, especially because I use music to lift my spirit, to cheer me up and make me feel encouraged. I think it's a better use of time and energy to just not focus on such negative things.

Despite hip hops violence and curse words, hip hop has nothing to do with God.
I don't really care for it but country music is more God like than most music considering they sing about love and such. Country music is usually song by people raised in and that attends church on a regular bases.

Bob agrees, bob been listening to hip hop since 94 and every rapper mentions god or their god atleast once. Bob feels this is becasue a lot of rapper's familys are really religious and carry their beliefs with them through out their lives, where a lot of other musicians like rockers and metal heads kind of just drop religion and leave god out of their music. Even though every rapper has commited a crime atleast once and usually a pretty bad crime, they still try to block out the negative and engulf the positive and the positive is usuallly god.
Plus theres the fact that the rappers that came from poverty and gang violence stricken areas, when your parents are crack heads, your best friend got shot and you feel all alone, you gotta turn to somebody so you feel like you can make it and a lot of times people turn to god.

Most of the people you're talking about were known drug dealers and murderers or involved with the murder of the other.
If that makes them 'saved' I don't know what to say about that.
Haydn wrote AMDG at the end of every piece he wrote (over 104 symphonies etc etc). Ad Majorem Die Gloriam (to the greater glory of God). Even if there was secular content there was vast dedication to God......genre doesn't matter. Neither does one's supposed faith. By the actions of Tupac and 50 Cent, they're coming back around for a few more rounds of incarnation...just my humble opinion.

I can't say whether hip-hop could be considered "God-filled", but I do find it funny to hear people like 50 Cent give thanks to God and Jesus for their success but then turn around on the same album and say that they themsleves are the reason for their success and that they're the greatest of all time. Then to go on and brag about the fights they've won, the revenge they've sought, the people they've made pay.....it seems entirely hypocritical if you ask me. If you claim to be a Christian, or a man of God, act like it and stop teaching kids that violence is the answer to life's problems!

its not about the category of music, its about the artist.......why does everything have to be categorized these days?? can we not accept the fact that there are both good and bad from every category??? (and not just music, but races, and religions, and nations, and families, and even cars, and words).
ever heard of 3 doors down? stonesour? ozzy osbourne? come on now, if you can get past the language, you can get past the fact that he bit the head off a bat.
music is music man, there is no best genre, not for god like, or ungodly, there is both in all.

Well, I think that you're ignoring the whole "Christian alternative" section of your record store. There is Christian Rock, Rap, Country, Punk, Ska, R&B, etc. I think any of those is more god-filled, being that they are by bands dedicated to singing about God.
If you're talking mainstream, not specifically Christian bands, then I'd probably say Country, which has songs that regularly pray or call on Gods beneficence.

This is something I have noticed also. But since you want my take on it, here goes. Not to get all "Imus" on you or anything but I kind of cringe when at an awards show they get on stage and sing about drugs, gangs, violence, and adultery, and are so disrespectful to women. Then they go to accept their award, and they thank God first every time. I doubt I am the only one who cringes at the thought of it either. But more than that it amazes me that they seem to have no conviction about the mixed messages they are sending.

Are you KIDDING ME? Hip hop is probably the most hypocritical of all music genres when it comes to their personal religion. They are supposedly "Christian" with their crosses around their neck but they are the ones out there "sinning" and talking about hurting people.
Oh wait- most christians are like that. oops.

Oh, yeah "This is why i'm hot", such Godliness i'm about to shoot myself.
But, I will say that "Jesus Walks" is a great song, and I like the Rap that doesn't go on and on about how much money they have, and all that crap. Also, Flyleaf is a rock group and their album makes a lot of references to God, they're also a great band, I think so anyway.
