I was hoping to get it husked, cleaned, and soaking before I went to work - that would be about 8 hours. Is that too long to soak it?

1 hour is best, or you loose all the flavor

There's no need to soak other than a few minutes or you will take away the flavor of the corn.

Husk & clean it when you get home from work, soak for 10 minutes.

The best way we've discovered over the past 20 years to cook corn on the cob is to use a small amount of saran wrap and wrap the cob - just enough wrap to cover.

Microwave it for 4 minutes, turn it over and nuke again for another 4 minutes.

Let stand in the microwave for about a minute, then remove. Don't take the saran wrap off until ready to serve.

It's crisper, tastier and stays warmer this way!

(note - don't leave it in the plastic wrap tooooo long)
(note2 - it's VERY hot when removing from the microwave, you might want to use a potholder)

Good luck - if you haven't tried it this way, do it at least once before judging.

:)
Happy eating.

I have never soaked mine. I had cleaned it and put it in boiling water for about 5 mins, (after boiling started again).
You can also clean the hair out of it and leave the husk, put a dab of butter on the corn and re-cover it with the husk and microwave for about 3 min.
You could clean it and wrap in a wet (damp) paper towel and microwave it. Cooking times may vary.

When I cook corn it soaks for as long as it takes for the water to boil. After cleaning the corn I put in a pot of cold water and bring it to a boil, cover and remove from the heat.
