My father bought a 30/06 in the early 1970's. He rarely used it. In 2005 he passed away and now I have it. I know nothing about guns at all. I don't hunt and don't want to. I was just wandering how much its worth? Its a bolt action with a shoulder strap and a scope. Its in almost perfect condition and has been collecting dust for almost 30 years. And is it legal to sell a gun to just anyone?

no a 70's rifle is not a museum piece and that is not the place to get it appraised. You will need to provide more info to give you a price on the gun though. It could be as much as $1000 or more, or as little as $500 depending on manufacturer, how well the gun was cared for, how much bluing is left, if there is any rust, etc. A Browning from that time period will go for $750+ or so. I believe Remington's are around the same price and Winchesters can approach the $1000 mark. That's about as specific as I can be with the info provided.

More than likely its worth is somewhere between $50 and $10,000. That's as close as it can be pinned down on the information you've provided. If it's a standard model from one of the major US manufacturers, it's likely worth several hundred dollars, but it's quite possible it might be older, and a pre-1964 Winchester model 70 would bring something of a premium these days, just as one example. If you know somebody knowledgable about firearms, they can at least give you an idea of whether it's a "plain vanilla" rifle or something a bit more special.

It is only worth about $300. It depends to what state ur in to whom you can sell it to. Take it to a gun dealer and they will give you the best deal and you can definatly sell it to them.

anything out of that time is classic. take it to a museum, and they'll evaluate it for you.
