Yes, it is!

I have one I purchased two months ago, and I absolutely love it! Mine is 6mp and 12x zoom, and I use the zoom a LOT! It has image stabilization, so the shots are generally great, even at full zoom.

I take photo's while traveling, and a lot of nature shots as well. My camera also has a video clip feature that is excellent, and I use it more than I anticipated.

I have the Canon Powershot S3 IS, which I chose because of the swivel LCD screen, the 12x zoom, and battery life, among other things. There are other cameras in this class as well, I would recommend looking up reviews of the S3, most of which will mention the competitors, so you can compare and see which camera appeals to you most.

Would depend on what size print you want to make in the end. I have in my store a 20x30 print from the D50 (6 MP D-SLR). That size is usually large enough for most folks. One other recommendation would be mor megapixels, maybe 10, and there are many more of those showing up every day. Actually I believe Olympus has a 7 MP with an 18 X optical zoom. For more flexibility, check out a D-SLR. Not knowing your experience, I would recommend the Canon Rebel XTi, Nikon D80, or Sony Alpha D100. You will limit your zoom capabilities, but you get much greater flexibility with ISO, Shutter speeds, and apertures. Once again, check out www.dpreview.com and Good luck!!

The "10X" aspect of zoom ratings isn't the whole story.

If the lens is 36-360mm (film equivalent) you'll certainly be able to magnify far-away objects, but you won't be able to take wide-angle shots.

Think of it this way...which shot will you take more often: three friends at a party, or the licence plate of a car down the block?

Also, you should be aware that the greater the zoom range, the more compromises in a lens. Distortion, chromatic aberration and corner softness are likely to be greater than in a less ambitious lens.

Just to put this into perspective, in the SLR world, 5X zoom is pretty much acknowledged as pretty much pushing the envelope.

Yes, Nikon has an 18-200, but it's very expensive and not altogether successful. On the other hand, their 18-70 (just under 4X) is modeately-priced and regarded very highly.

So while it's nice to be able to quantify what you're getting for your money, it pays to be aware that there's more to a camera than numbers.

Jeez how many megapixels does it really take? For email and standard 4" prints, 480x640 or 0.3 megapixel is optimum. Some fancy name camera makers triple count the pixels, that is they have blue pixels, green pixels and red pixels so that still works out to less than one megapixel. for good 8" prints you should set the resolution to one step above the minimum 480x640 (960x1280 or 1200x1600), cameras with 3 to 5 megapixel count work great.

As to optical zoom, anything over 3x becomes very difficult to hold still. no point in taking blurry pictures. and the on-board flash is only good for 10 feet or so. for most travel shots, you will mostly use the wide end of the zoom range anyway.

Another consideration is battery. It will not be so easy to charge batteries when travelling, a camera that takes AA cells is best.

And finally, carrying an unusually fancy camera on your travels will make you a target for theives. A camera is also an easy thing to misplace, damage or lose, so avoid one that is too expensive. And either download the pictures as you travel and burn to CD on the laptop, or get extra memory cards so that you will have copies of the pictures incase the unmentionalble occurs.

i recommend Fuji A500 as a new camera, but you could find many good cameras with these specs used.

If u compare camera based on features alone the price difference between a very establised brand like NIKON to a less established one say xxx(I don't want to be sued for nothing) the gap is not very significant. Should be less than 15% tops. If u need to go in blind then just take the more expensive one. U may also want to consider more practical features like what is the size of the defualt memory cards. What kind of battery they are using, the disposble ones usually don't last as well as the rechargable type in cold countries. Frankly, at 6 MP it is quite difficult to make a wrong choice. Just not too long ago, 5 MP is considered as professional and 3 MP entry level. These days entry level camera starts at 6 to 8 MP.

What are you going to use it for? That is the primary question.

If you are only after a point and shoot, then I recommend the Canon A series.

If you are looking for a prosumer camera, then look at the Canon G series and the Olympus prosumer cameras. "Prosumer" in my book is a P&S camera that allows full manual control.

If you are looking for a DSLR, Canon or Nikon only. Canon 400D or Nikon D50, D40x etc. for entry level DSLR.

The PS4 is possibly going to return out everywhere from 2014-2016 maximum possibly, easily not this three hundred and sixty 5 days. i think of getting a PS3 would be a stable investment, you will easily get your moneys nicely worth out of it.
