its sort of triangular but the edges are curved -how to define the curve

I don't know the actual answer for this, but it might help if searching for information to know the parts you will be cutting are called "gores" or "gore" singular. Gore is the name of the part, not the shape of the curve, one uses gores for pear shaped balloons too. Take a look at the old map makers of long ago, they had a similar problem Try orange peel or mercator or polar or soccer ball

I know there is a term for this shape, but I seemed to have lost it. The shape would be sort of (US) football shaped, oval with pointy ends.
