All the signs of the times are here. There are earthquakes, famines, disease, plagues wars and rumours of wars. I am aware that no one knows the day nor the hour, but how many people think the end is coming in the next twenty years and Jesus will be on earth?

We are in the last year of 7 years of plenty, and in Sept. 2008 will begin the 7 years of famine.... beginning of tribulation. Don't quote me the scripture that says no man knows the coming of the Lord. That's a lie. The Lord has revealed it in scriptures to many just recently. It's called "hidden manna". In doubt? Well seek it out for yourself and you decide if they have indeed had confirmations and revelations from the Lord.

Hi Matthew
Since you say: "I am aware that no one knows the day nor the hour," why do you then add a "but" - which effectively means, in this context, "but forget about that, let's speculate anyway."

I remember reading in a newspaper, AT LEAST 20 years ago, an interview with a pastor at some church who reckoned he knew how to calculate this stuff. Well, sort of!

As far as I remember his words his explanation went something like this:

"In the 1960s it seemed to me like the end must be pretty near, and I predicted it would be in 1970. Then I did some more studying and I settled on 1973 instead. Then I prayed some, and studied again and I thought it was more likely to come in 1978 or '79."

Isn't there somewhere in the New Testament that says that in those times there will be many false prophets?

I seem to rember that there is also an instruction to live every moment like it could be our last so that we will be prepared no matter when the end comes.
Maybe we're meant to take that instruction seriously, do you think, rather than trying to guess our way round it?

The end is coming, it will not be in the next 20 years. The verse you are thinking about says in Matthew 24;

"And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these are the beginning of sorrows."

In other words, we are NOT to look at wars, rumours of wars, etc... as signs of the end time. .

I think there is a possibility that Jesus might come back around 2028 because of the theory about the significance of numbers in the Bible. Supposedly Jesus was born around 4BC and so He would have died around year 28AD. If 2028 is 7,000 years after the creation of the earth and 7 represents completion then maybe that's when Jesus will come back. Just a theory. I know that the Bible says that no one knows the day when Jesus will return and as to the signs you mention Jesus said that these were the beginning of birth pangs. Who knows? Maybe I'm off a thousand years or maybe the theory doesn't have anything to do with God's timing.

Firstly, Jesus on earth? Ehm.. no

Secondly, you should have asked this question in 1939 when the first world war was just over and a second was just about to start.

Right now we're fine. We've got thousands of years left on this planet.

All we have to do to make it a better place is somehow overthrow the idiot that is running the White House and make americans aware that it is NOT a good thing to invade a country.

There have always been earthquakes, famines, disease, plagues, wars and rumours of wars. That's just how the world works.

Jesus isn't coming back. He's long dead and gone, it's not happening.

The baby boomers are on the verge of retirement. They are the most well educated group ever born. It is getting harder for the government and authorities to pull the "wool" over their eyes (at least canadian boomers).
Have you noticed all the old leaders (generals) dieing off? This is called the succesion. There will be new wars, skirmishes to establish the next "kings" of the shtt pile.

The signs of the times have always been with us. Since we have more technology now than we had 100 years ago, for example, we hear more about these signs than before. Just because we hear more about them now does not mean we are any closer to the end than before. It does not mean that we are not in the end days. Only Allah knows for sure.
