I must admit Ive had a lot of trouble doing this for a while but I think Ive got a hang of it. Even though I ask questions to specific people and they might actually bug some, I will not take sides with anyone.

How do you manage to stay objective? Got any quick pointers?

It is not easy. my problem is all the "facts" that people throw around on here. Once something is stated to be a fact, but you or I know it isn't, that's when the trouble starts.

Like yesterday, two people answered a question about evolution by stating "evolution is a fact and a theory", and how can you argue with that? Either something is a fact or it is a theory, right? Something is wrong with our system of education that gets people to make such statements.
Quite funny but still rather sad too. But I admit that I am not very objective many times.

I'm with Acid_Zebra: humans are incapable of being objective. We are biased in favour of the lessons we learn from our experiences.

However, being biased and demonstrating bias are two different things. We can give the appearance of being objective by saying nothing.

But how objective is anyone likely to be when someone steps forth and says "the world is flat and I can prove it"?

I don't really see any reason to be objective. I do always think about a question from all sides before answering.

I try not to be judgmental. I just answer the questions I'm moved to answer and move on. You also have to have a sense of humor, because there are some really funny answers and questions.

for me i try and just say what is on my mind, kind of a first thought response, not to much thought put into anything, my biggest problem is language.

just remember this is cyberspace, not reality...

well then again maybe cyberspace is reality, but that sounds like a question in and of itself for another time

Imagining a god that would ever have to kill makes me laugh thinking how emotionally unstable he would be. Laughter keeps me grounded which helps me to continue to be objective.

sorry lady, I do not think humans are capable of being objective. Everybody has a bias and an agenda.

freeze frame! ok, now. An objective observer interactively inquisitive... let loose all binding paradigm restraints and dance.
oh, yeah... and HUMOR! meaning: don't take ANYTHING seriously.

I subscribe to my own belief & am happy for ppl to subscribe to their own as long as they don't try to force it on me.

I prefer the silly questions & am a big fan of the regular trolls :-)
