I miss the Yahoo "Y" on my desktop, which has been replaced with the internet explorer "E." All my icons are the internet explorer "E." How can I get my shortcut icons back on my desktop?

The "Y" icon for Yahoo is usually added when you install in the Yahoo Toolbar. Most other icons are added when you install the program that they run. If you have not installed the programs, then you will not have the icon, nor would the icon work if you had one.
If you have a program installed, but no icon for it, try looking in the Start Menu for a way to run the program. If you find it, right click on the selection in the menu and do a "copy'. Then go to the desktop and do a "paste". That will place an icon for that program on your desktop.
