The first step would be to know where your fear starts. I used to have a fear of flying and believe it or not, I'm now a commercial pilot!! For me, it was the lack of being in control and not knowing what was happening in the cockpit. So, first understand where the fear starts. Then, get comfortable with things that DON'T make you nervous -- i.e., sitting in an airplane is OK so practice it. If you don't like take-offs, but like taxiing, see if you have a friend who flies small airplanes (as I do) and taxi with him/her.

You can overcome your fear just like it works with any other fear: Just do it. You have to get used to it and realize that there is no reason to be afraid.
It is useful to think about it first, too. What is it EXACTLY that you are afraid of?
I hope I could help and good luck!

The only way to overcome any phobia is by facing it. If you are having so much anxiety that you cannot do it alone, there are useful therapies such as hypnosis and bio feedback that can help ease the level of anxiety to a more manageable level.

Go parachuting, if that doesn't do it, then nothing will.
