it will ask you if you want to reformat or repair and it will wipe everything that was on there before. repair tries to replace damaged missing files but a clean install is better

Back up all your personal data FIRST.

Then, use the ONLY Recovery CD that came with your laptop to return it to factory condition. No CD? "XP recovery" is on the hard drive.

If stuck, call the manufacturer after you read the manual.

TIP:Do not use any other Windows XP disc, no drivers.

let me allow you to recognize that any application you would pick to purchase and getting it for free is unlawful and also you've a probability of having stuck, i surely have downloaded many courses and dealing structures and not in any respect been stuck, so i advise getting it of the web, take a seem on you tube, continually examine the comments, human beings would have downloaded the record/s and could remark no matter if that is unlawful or similar: if there are any video clips with none remark s or comments were disabled, then DEFIANTLY do no longer receive it!!! also if it didnt comprise a disk and also you dont concepts xp, google search for ' hp backup and fix' - use that application to make a cd

If you just want to format and reinstall windows to a clean slate it should work fine. If you actually want the data destroyed you need a program like autoclave that will "secure delete" by doing a low level format and overwriting the entire disk with random data.

Before you reformat your drive I suggest downloading and saving your audio and video drivers to disk. Also download a driver for the processor

it works, but you will have to copy all your files onto cds before you do that, as they will all be erased from hard disk after formatting
