for the last few nights i have been drinking hot chocolate before bed and putting lavender on my pillow and I never drinnk caffeine but it doesn't work.
I just end up lying there for hours until 2 not feeling tired it's like I've got so tired I can't sleep or something??

Is it just because in teenagers melatonin is produced later or could it be insomnia?

Too much burning the candle especially round bedtime doesn't help with falling to sleep. Also studying and stress doesn't help either.
Try and stop your studying half an hour before bed and actually do something else like watch your fave tv show or read a book not related to your studies. If that isn't possible then get to bed at 9:30pm with a summary sheet of your days studying and write down in a diary all the good points that have happened in the day.
When you do get to lie down in the dark, a few techniques.
1) Lie on your back and close your eyes and pretend you are lying on a beach in the sunshine and you are sunbathing. Hear the waves lapping and hear the sounds of kids playing and everything else you hear at the beach. Before you know it you'll be alseep if you're tired enough.
2) Someone mentioned this self hypnosis technique of counting backwards. I usually start at 300 though and have never gotten to 150 yet. I'm usually asleep.
3) Write a diary of everything that has happened that day, sort of like closure for that day. What you haven't done can be done tomorrow and you need not worry about it till you wake up in the morning.
Hope this helps and good luck with your exams.
Dawn.

Hmmm, stress, to much on your mind. Try relaxing in a darker room like an hour before bed. Maybe take some Melatonin, it is a supplement that helps induce natural sleep patterns. Get more exercise during the day so you are worn out at night time. Cut down on the caffeine, especially later in the day. Or try sleepy time tea, it works for some people. Put in a really boring movie, or some light music to help you fall asleep. There is a ton of things you can try, and eventually you will find the right thing. Good luck! And if all else fails, ask the doc to do a sleep study on you. Maybe there is another cause. Exhaust your other options first though.

It might have something to do with stress.
I do this too and have everynight just about for as long as I can remember. I personally don't think it IS stess, but thats what my doctor claims lol
I just don't know how to turn my brain OFF.
How the heck do you do that? How can you just stop thinking?

I guess we both need to try yoga so we can clear our minds lol

Also don't drink any caffiene, it could be contributing to the problem.

I also read somewhere that if this happens, you should get up out of your bed, go sit down in another room in pitch black, and just simply breathe...and focus on that.
Then after a few minutes or so go back to bed calmly and try again. It also said it may take a few tries!
I haven't tried it though because honestly I am afraid of the dark, so I don't want to sit around in some room alone in pitch black just breathing! lol

Meditation could help as well.

It probably isn't insomnia or anything, but just try some relaxation techniques to try and help.

Good luck, and hopefully good night! lol

At 6 months that's ok. it could desire to be a annoying sleep cycle to handle yet that's not as undesirable because it could desire to be. a good sort of 6 month babies have short daylight hours naps and wake each and every 2 hours by using the evening. At 6 months she is basically discovering with regard to the worldwide round her and there are such a good sort of adjustments happening, developmentally. the final subject you're able to do is ward off too lots stimuli in the time of her evening wakings. shop it dark, shop it quiet and permit her be responsive to you're there and he or she's ok. If she is waking too consume then feed, exchange and placed her perfect returned to mattress. easily that's commonly used

Not being able to get to sleep can be a sign of stress. It sounds to me as though you are worrying about your sats. Try getting yourself really relaxed before you got o bed. Drink hot chocolate and take a good book to bed with you. Nothing to do with revision but something that is going to take your mind off it. I'm sure that once you get past next week, things will settle down.

It could be that you're stressing out because of your SATs next week.

It could be any number of things. Drinking caffeine (found in tea, coffee, soft drinks) late at night.

The other thing could be that you're not unwinding of an evening. If you're studying until bed time, your brain is awake and won't let you sleep so spend an hour before hand just doing something that doesn't require your brain to be active. Watch a couple of episodes of your favourite show you know off by heart, listen to some music, read a book. Any number of things to cool your brain off and give it a chance to slow down before you try to sleep.

I get the same problem but I do this really cool meditation thing and it works!! Basically you lie down in your bed or somewhere you feel comfortable in, focus on your breathing so that EVERYTHING goes out of your mind, this in itself is quite relaxing!! Then you have to "mentally" concentrate on each part of your body, e.g. focus on your legs getting heavier, then your arms etc. so that in the end your ENTIRE body feels heavy as if it is melting into your mattress. Even if you can't do that some deep breathing helps me. I can tell it's working beacuse after a short while I start to yawn!!

Also, try getting a hobby as it will take your attention away from your school work and if it is a physical hobby it will wear you out so you will feel exhausted and sleep well.

Well maybe its because might because you're stressed out. If you have a busy schedule, try to put a bit of free time for relaxation. If you stay up too late that can cause tireness. YOu should get at least 8 and a half hours of sleep.

You better stop thinking to much. And you might want to do a very tiring activity that you are so tired that you will fall asleep right away. Join some co-curricular activities, do some extra chores, anything that makes you tired before you sleep.

But don't do it too much, just enough to lessen the time you will really sleep, like at 12, 1 or 11 o'clock.

If you are on antidepressant medication these will give you insomnia?? Perhaps, if this is the case, see your Doctor about reducing your dosage and this will relax your body more.

Insomnia is also a sign of vitamin B12 deficiency. Other symptoms of B12 deficiency are fatigue and exhaustion, headaches and migraines, dizziness, depression, irritability, moodiness, inability to concentrate, head and hand sweats, chest pains and heart palpitations, nausea and vomiting, numbness, prickling and tingling sensations in the outer extremities (hands and arms, feet and legs) and constipation.

You need to increase your intake of foods rich in this vitamin:

Beef, liver, yeast, milk, cheese, fish and kidney and pork.

If you are vegetarian and have excluded eggs and dairy products from your diet then you really need to supplement your diet with multi B vitamin tablets. They are usually labelled Mega B complex tablets or Executive Stress B tablets. Expect to pay around $30.00AUD for about 125 tablets (about 4 months supply). The B complex group of vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12. Don't buy these vitamins individually as they work best as a group.

The B group of vitamins are a water soluble group and therefore the body can neither store or produce them. We need to replenish them in our bodies on a daily basis. When we are under added stress our bodies will naturally use up more of these vitamins and we need to adjust our diets accordingly. As they are water soluble, any excess you take will simply be excreted in your urine. So, don't worry, say if you are really panicking about your exams and you take even 3 or 4 multi B tablets cos any excess the body doesn't need will simply be excreted in your urine.

The best part is that as soon as you correct the nutritional deficiency your symptoms will disappear rapidly!! Chin up, you'll see!! Honestly, I've got 3 school age children and each time one is complaining of headache, tummy ache, too tired to do anything, etc.etc.etc. inevitably they've been ditching their school lunches for rubbish they've been buying like pies and chips!! I know its really easy to jus grab wotever is handy but unless you try to either include multi B supplements or include some of the abovementioned foods on a daily basis you'll continue to suffer unecessarily!!

Hey, cheers and good health 2 u.

Oh, good luck on your exams!!

CHEERS
