Usually, but it can and probably will get worse before that, and could cause more damage. Ask the doc for an antibiotic and some drops.

I had an ear infection in both ears years ago, and as i was on holiday at the time I left it. It got much, much worse, to the point where the pain was intolerable and I couldn't hear properly. It was as if I was under water, everything was quiet and muffled - and that lasted for 2 weeks, even after I did eventually start on the antibiotics. My ears still aren't quite right, some ten years on.
So I would suggest you definitely go to the doctor's and get some antibiotics!

If it's infected, then you need antibiotics to clear up the infection, normaly your doc will prescribe pills and ear drops, the sooner you start the sooner the pain will go, ear infections can be realy painfuland can lead to a perferated ear drum, log off and get down the doctors, bye

My son had an ear infection that was supposed to be cleared by antibiotics however it was a mastiode ear infection. He spent 3 months in hospital as the infection had made it's way to the lining of his brain. Go to the doctor!

Deffinitely see a doctor for advice. These days they don't usualy give antibiotics for ear infections but the doctor needs to have a look and make the decision. I'd go asap.
Good luck

I think it depends what it is that is causing it. I think it would be wise to see your doctor as they might give you antibiotics or if it is caused by ear wax for example they can syringe it out.
I have glue ear and have water in the bottom of my ear constantly and there is nothing the doctor will do to treat it. It does not hurt most of the time but it is annoying as it clicks.
I use olive oil to soften the ear wax but it does not get rid of the water.

If you are talking about otitis media, an inner ear infection about 80% get better on their own within 48 hours. We tend to treat the ones that are still causing problems after that,
If you are talking about otitis externa, infection in the outer canal, most of these need treatment from the outset.
Either way it sounds now as if you should see your GP.

You need anti-biotics! Ring the doc now and book and
appointment. It will get worse if not treated. You also
could get some earex from the chemists cos the doc might
say you need your ears syringed. In this case he will ask
you to have ear drops to soften the wax before the procedure!

The infection dosen`t heal itself it needs an antibiotic to kill infection, left longer can lead to more serious aillments eg deafness so get it sorted before this happens.

Because of the inaccessibility to the inside of your ears and the closeness to you brain and the balance purpose of your inner ear it is most important to go to a doctor as soon as you can They do not heal themselves.~~
