i have a dog that was in heat and the male got to her quite a few times and they even had to be pulled apart. now it has been about 3 weeks and i was wondering if she was pregnant. around her nipples, there are hard knots that are about the size of a quarter. is this a sign of pregnancy ???

Oh no, don't ever pull dogs apart when they're mating. When dogs mate, it's very different than most animals. The reason why they sometimes don't pull apart after mating is because they simply can't - the male's penis expands to further insure that she gets pregnant. If you pull them apart it can be very painful for both of them and even damage the male.

Yes, she sounds like she's pregnant. Take her to a vets.

She probably is pregnant.

You should never pull dogs apart once they are tied. You can badly hurt either or both.

there is a very good chance she is pregnant...she will gain weight, have mood changes, nest and her nipples will lactate...actually pregnancy lasts 63 to 65 days

probably yes.

also, you shouldnt have pulled them apart. sex for dogs isnt as pleasurable as it is for humans, in fact, it can be painful and dangerous. when dogs mate, the end of the male dogs "thing" expands considerably to lock him into the female. they are sometimes stuck together like this for several minutes.
pulling them apart after it has expanded can cause serious damage to both dogs. you are very lucky you didnt seriously tear them.

also, dogs pregnancy isnt as easy as natural as it sounds. dont leave it up to the mother. she needs vet checks and you need to know what you are doing during birth. a breached pup can kill the mother and any further pups inside her... if she needs a c-section, its going to cost you around a thousand dollars. these things commonly happen in birth.

i suggest you start researching how to look after her during birth and afterwards and get the dog to a vet for its initial pregnancy visit.

it all could have been avoided by keeping the dogs seperate of getting them SPAYED..

I'd say yes. The dogs pregnancy is around 56 days, so if you know when she was mated, you'll know when about the puppies are due.
