I am a tranfer student, and got in to UCLA.
Sadly, i did not know about the FAFSA program, and missed the deadline to turn the form in.

Can i still turn that in? The reason why I am asking this question is that I want to get grants (ex. Cal grants) and they all require me to fill out the FAFSA by march whcih means i already missed the deadline.

I heard that if i apply right now, i only get student loans.
but what about the grants?
can i still be eligible?

For most grant programs, funds are awarded until they are exhausted and a deadline really means that is when awarding of the funds starts. If I were you, I would file the FAFSA today. If you do, you still may have a chance to receive something. If you don't, there is no chance at all. File that online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you use a federal PIN number to sign it, the school can have the results in 3 business days. If you file without a PIN, print the signature page and mail it immediately, and processing will take about 10 days. If you mail a paper FAFSA, it could take up to 6 weeks or more.

Adcutally, you have until June 30, 2010 to complete the FAFSA for the 09-10 school year. If you're attending this fall semester and paid your tuition and you qualify for grants or loans, they will pay you back to reimburse you what you've paid out of pocket. I did this last year. I didn't complete the fafsa till December and got aid for both semesters. Next year, do it as soon after January 1 as possible for the 10-11 school year. Also be sure to complete any state and school applications for aid....the deadline for these is as early as February or March in some areas.

Not sure I understand your question, but I do know it is not too late to fill out a FAFSA application. I missed my school's deadline for financial aid but I still completed a FAFSA application online and now I must wait for the fall quarter to enroll. I believe that all of your questions will be answered if you visited the fafsa website. They have a lot of info about the types of aid available. If I can think of the website that I visited the other day that breaks down everything about financial aid I will edit this answer and give you the website. It was very useful to me.

Technically it's NEVER too late to file the FAFSA. Your issue is, however, not filing the FAFSA, but the financial aid disbursements done by the school. Most schools, like mine, have already issued out financial aid award letters for the next semester, and schools have only a limited amount of fundage to spend on Pell Grants, Perkins Loans, and Federal Work Study. You MIGHT be out of luck in all of those categories, not to mention any scholarships.

What they CAN offer you, however, is probably the maximum allowable by your grade level in Stafford Loans.

The slimmest possibility for you: somebody decided NOT to take their financial aid package, your school is sitting on some, and you get lucky....

Good luck...seriously....
