Xanax has done wonders for me. I used to have extreme yelling screaming fits that I could not control when under stress and would have trouble breathing. But after taking Xanax on an as needed bases it has calmed me down. After a few months of using it I now have figured out how to stay calm without it. Now I hardly have incidents anymore were I need to take it. In fact after such a succesful therepy, the Xanax has been sitting on the shelf for six months without me needing it. I think that it deserves to be called the wounder drug of our century! It had such a positive change in my life!

It's only addictive if you dont follow your doctors instructions. Otherwise when used properly like I did, it can be a wounder drug.

I took xanax along with cognitive therepy. Before taking xanax I was too freaked out to be able to cooperate in cognitive therepy as I would be too hysterical when rationalizing my problems and not be able to relax and follow his advice. But with Xanax iam now able to take the cognitive therepists advice without being too hysterical to listen and cooperate.

I too suffer from anxiety and have for many years. I am on Xanax and only started taking it after nothing else seemed to work and was at my wits end. I understand how you can see it as a "wonder drug" for you since it has helped you with your anxiety a great deal. When our bodies need a medication to calm us down it does not have the effect on us as it would on someone who would just be taking it to get a "good feeling" or taking it for recreation which is so often done these days and has therefor given Xanax such a bad rap. Although, we need it and we take it as prescribed the chemicals in all benzodiazepines which is the class of medications that Xanax falls in are VERY addictive but sometime neccesary depending on your anxiety level and what your Dr. deems is proper for your treatment. It is great that you have been able to sit them on the shelf for six months without needing them too and I hope you will never need them again. However, it should NEVER be stopped without consent and supervision from a Dr. because very serious side effects, including seizures can occur.
I am VERY glad it worked for you but it has been proven that these medications only take the edge off so to speak and as with any medication for anxiety the best outcome is when put together with cognitive therapy to get to the underlying problem(s) and/or causes. Again, I am glad that it has helped you and I wish the best for you and hope you have continued success in managing your anxiety but I do not think Xanax can be called a "wonder drug" unfortunately because for the majority of people it takes many years to get off of and there are lasting side effects if taken for long periods of time and since it is so addictive it is easy for some to become not only dependent but also begin to take more than prescribed. There are so many newer medications available now for helping anxiety that are not addictive that Dr.'s are able to try and typically do before reverting to the benzos unless in extreme cases. For more information you can go to www. benzodiazepines.com or www.Xanax.com. Good luck with the continued success over controlling your anxiety.

Xanax is a temporary solution for anxiety and yes it does work wonders when you first start taking it. Xanax IS addictive even when you take it as prescribed. The problem is, when your tolerence goes up the symptoms will come back and you will be forced to keep increasing the dose.
If you are like I was, after you realize that and the doctor takes you off, your anxiety will be worse than before.
Also you are not taking it as presribed if you decided on your own when and how you need it. You should never stop taking your meds just because you feel like you don't need it. The chances of your syptoms coming back are almost 90% without proper treatment.

All alcohol and drugs (with the exception of those that grow naturally and are not converted into another form) are bad for you, religion and society as a whole. Alcohol is the true gateway drug and should be banned while marijuana should be legalized. Doing so would lower drunk driving statistics, domestic abuse, stupidly, gang problems/wars/shootings. People on weed talk religion and politics. People on alcohol and other drugs speak incoherent jibberish.

I believe that most mental illness can be cured with a slap upside the head. It's cheap, effective and requires no prescription.
