I've tried meditation, I've tried self-hypnosis. I'm not a particularly stressed person, but I can't stop grinding my teeth.

it ain't you or stress......it is genetics.......get a hard flat plane acrylic device to wear on your lower teeth at night....it snaps over your lower teeth and your upper teeth have nothing to grind on......they rub against a flat hard surface when they are trying to grind...so your jaw stays relaxed and your teeth don't get all beat up by the constant action while you sleep...my device cost about $200 but is worth every penny... good luck

The easy fix is to get a sports mouth guard. You can sleep in it.

The dentist can also make you a guard (usually plastic). The types vary, so ask what you are getting. For example, if you need to wear it all day because you grind all day, get something that is transparent/not colored so others won't notice it. Some dental guards are not like this--they are opaque and obvious or don't fit the same way, making it hard to talk.

Minor grinding may not be a problem beyond annoying other people or perhaps creating headaches. More severe cases can lead to severe tooth surface loss, which can be arrested with proper crowns, or which eventually will cause you to need many root canals and restoration of teeth with crowns etc. If not treated, a tooth which needs a root canal can advance to bone infection in the skull where the tooth root adjoins.

There are plates that you can buy and put on your teeth to keep yourself from damaging anything. You can get them at any chain drugstore.

If you aren't doing any damage to your teeth then grinding should be harmless. However if you're also getting headaches, you might need something else. See if you can call your dentist and just get some information, stressing that you don't want to come in for anything. Doctors can be a little overeager and there's no point in paying for a consultation that probably won't do anything you couldn't get for free over the phone.

There isn't anything u can do except to use a teeth guard. I've tried using both hard and soft teeth guard and find the soft one much better cos the hard one's kinda hard to wear and it breaks easily too.

I think you need to wear one cos last time, before I started wearing a teeth guard, I grinded so much that the end of one my teeth actually chipped off and it causes receding gum and cause sensitivity. It's a very annoying problem. But I highly recommend a teeth guard.

Hi. I have had the same problem, wich resulted in headaches and bad moods... I went to the dentist and he set me up with a type of brace in hard plastic. (Sorry, dont know the term in english, maby its "dental splint"). You sleep with it in you mouth, helping your yaws to relax and so you get a good night sleep and no more grinding.

You need to go to the dentist and have him make you a mouth guard. Call your dentist in the morning and get an appoinment set up for this.

invest in a nightguard. visit a sporting goods store or see your dentist.
