I feel like i'm dyin.--- she has talked about going to pine rest before but never went. I'm wondering if there is a way that i can get her into something like that.... Or does she have to actually attempt suicide before its out of her control??

for one thing DONT LET HER ATTEMPT SUICIDE dont just dont cuz if she does there is a good chance that she might die... so my advice would be talk to her tell her how much you care tell her that even if it does seem like no one cares and no one would understand what goes through her head it still wouldnt hurt to try to talk to some one it doesnt have to be any one special just some one she trusts i mean she cant go on like that... and also find out if shes on drugs or any other medication that she is useing for side affects (just in case) also find out if she cuts her self.. that is anougher thing she would do to try to relive stress and anger and other emotions but dont go up to her and ask "hey are you cutting your self or are you on drugs?" just dont do that and if things get any worse i would deffently consider takeing her to "pine rest"

I grew up in Michigan and I'm also bipolar. When I was in my late teens I was at Pine Rest for a while. I remember during that time I was in the hallway and the pay phone rang. One of the patients answered it and said "Koozies nut house. What nut do you want to talk to?" It was funny. The nurses and doctors got mad at the guy. Me and the other patients in the hallway were laughing.

Don't tell the relatives, this could cause a LOT of problems! If they overreact, that could push her over the edge. Has she ever hurt herself before? How old is this friend? If she's over the legal age of consent, then she can only be taken to a help center if she attempts to committ suicide (and cutting is something entirely different, and non-life theatening, if that's an issue with her as well)
Take your friend somewhere quiet and out of the way, and take a few hours out of the day to just talk. Try to figure out what exactly is wrong with her, and see what you can do. Let her know that you're always there no matter what. And let her know that if she died, it would hurt you badly.

Talking is the best way to help, and talking to a friend is much more effective than being locked up and talking to a psychiatrist.

***I've sent texts like that to my best friend when I hurt a lot, all I wanted was for him to come give me a hug. Hugs and listening do wonders.

Only if she is danger of hurting herself or someone else. Try getting the family involved and have an intervention focused on how the family feels and what they fear for her and get her to a professional.

I would contact someone in their family to let them know what's going on. Until they actually do something that is threatening to themselves or others, not much legally anyone can do if they don't want to seek treatment.

You cannot get someone commited unless they have been declared incapable of making their own decisions or if she is detained via the police.

Call your friend's nearest relative and give them a head's up...your friend needs help!
