26' x 12" = 312"
18' x 12" = 216"

312" x 216" = 67392" square

8" x 8" = 64" square

67392 / 64 = 1053 pieces of tiles.

That will cover the floor area. How about the skirting? Are you using tiles as skirting? If so, assuming you use 4" skirt, then you'd need:

26' + 26' x 12" = 624" (2 lengths of wall)
18' + 18' x 12" = 432" (2 widths of wall)
624" + 432" = 1056" (total run of length of wall)

You will need to deduct any doorway (eg. 3' each) from the toal length of wall. Assuming 1 doorway of 3':

1056" - 36" = 1020" (total length minus doorway)

1020" / 8" / 2 (pieces of skirting per tile) = 63.75 pieces of tiles for skirting.

You'd also want to get maybe 10-20 pieces more in case of breakage, etc.

Basic math... there is 12 inches to the foot, and you will need a space of about 1/8" between the tiles for grout.

Now...if you suck so bad at math that you can't figure it out from there, drop by a Home Depot or some such store and ask them...they can even probably help you with lessons for a DIY job, or (if you're lucky) possibly recommend a reliable contractor.

Probably wouldn't hurt to get about 300. You will want some spare tiles in case some break during installation. Also you need to consider waste where the tiles will have to be cut. Also a supply of spares to keep just in case something gets dropped on the floor after the job is done. good luck

I'm surprised with the the answers you're getting. You need exactly 1053 tiles to do the job. Ofcourse you need extra tiles for assurance. A person responded to you about spacing for the grout, don't worry about it because 8x8 is a nominal size, it's actually smaller to accommodate the grouting. Make sure you buy the grout spacers for accurate placement... ofcourse you dont need that for vinyl or carpet tile :) Enjoy your project.

26 x 18 ft = 468ft x 12 = 5616inch
8in x 8in = 64in
5616 / 64 =87.75
I would suggest 90 in case some damage.

12" = 1"

Don't they teach math in schools any more?
