I well familiar with wood. I know what soft would do. I am aware of the scratches and dents it may more easily recieve. I think I might like the character but, I just wanted to know if anybody has done it or seen it.

Yes, it's widely available out there. Most of the one's i saw were pines. It does have that warm, cozy, cabin like look, and definitely an easy material to handle. Personally i like hardwoods better especially for finished carpentry. You're not actually saving much money by going with softwood on the first place. Hope this helps.

I photographed a condo in Austin once that had a pine floor but it was "heart wood" pine and there was a lot of waste getting enough straight boards. Also they were custom tongue and grooved. Maple would have been cheaper, but it sure had a nice rustic look.

All I know of is hardwood floorings. the soft wood would create a wear area after it has received traffic, I don't think it would look good after a while, it would become uneven and then you may get splinters also.

Traditionally soft woods were used in areas where carpeting would be used...then came the mass produced stuff they use now-a-days.

I've seen doug fir floors. If you like that rustic floor look that's the way to go........

i have seen plank floors of pine in houses and it is beautiful.also inexpensive.
