Is it arguable that taking religion too seriously and being overly devout could cause social and mental health problems, and therefore would only result in the opposite thing that the deeply religious person is trying to achieve?

You sure can. In the Jesus day these people were called pharisees. They were really wraped up into religion, adn Jesus didn't like em even one bit. Jesus didn't come to establish another religion. There are plenty of them around establishing all the rules necessary to get to heaven or have good karma or become a better animal or what ever. Christianity is about a relationship with the God who loves you and made you. While some seeemingly "religious" things like communion adn baptism are important, its really about spending time getting to know God and his people( that means all people by the way). This kind of life sets us free to live abundantly. Yeah!!! who doesn't love good clean fun, no guilt attached.

Yes you are right there is such a thing as being so involved in religion so that a person can not even know God at all! If that was not the case then all this fussing would stop and we would care enough about our fellow human beings to stop judging and arguing-simply having good manners would be a great plus.

There are many people who are being kinda "too religious". They may think that this way they live a good life and will go to Heaven.

You know, you don't need to be religious to go to Heaven. Only God will be the Answer to Heaven. Being religious is different with truly loving the Lord

It is yes, soon you will think that the whole world is rotten , that most people are evil ,

well basicly , the world around you is no longer what you thinb it is ,,

this difference can make you very depressive and can make you do strange things when you try to change the whole world into what you think it is / should be.

.

This is not only for beings that are too religious but also for other obsessive thoughts

Yes, that is what I would call a religious Zealot.

Some believe that their way of thinking and believing is the only way and that those who do not believe the same as them will be damned forever. They bring hatred and resentment for others different then themselves into their lives and it cause misery and contempt, neither which is good for the body or the soul.

Should a person choose to believe with all their might in that which they choose to believe, then accept others who do not believe in the same, In my opinion has gained much in life and happiness. See them as people and not a religion and you will be happier and healthier without the worries.

Peace

God was Crucified and Paul beheaded because they were cited as being "beside themselves" or insane.... according to the world--- or the worlds standards based on wordly wisdom (which itself proposes a problem) if ones motive persay are theres then it is arguable, however as it say it is not my will but thy will... so to say ones motives are not being attained is aguable on the basis that it is a personal relationship between onesself and god first I relise his will is for me then I see I must get out of his way and then his will will be accomplished his way... religion is ones relationship between oneself and the god of the universe not a denomination or a local church and if the so called deeply religous person is unable to attain what they are trying too first and formost and that will never be attained- but its all up in the air anyways and so yah good luck.... my question is what is a religious person

Yes. Someone can be so "high and heavenly minded that they are no earthly good." I think the expression people use these days is "keepin' it real." Becoming too religious implies excess of religion or dogma. However, being devout or showing devotion to one's faith would be commendable and an excess of spirituality, virtue and grace would be nice.

Yes, there are those who go to church all the time and make it to every church function, when in all reality, most of them are a waste of time. Unless a person is born again, they will not see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3). God does not ask much of us, only to be born again and follow the teachings of Jesus out of the Bible, and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone. A church cannot save you and baptism just gets you wet if you are not born again, same goes for a priest who tries to save you. He cannot do it, as he has his own sins and only God can forgive sins through Jesus Christ. Not all true born again Bible believing Christians are religious. We just follow scripture and it is not an unhappy thing to do and does not cause mental breakdown or health problems. I had all that before I was saved. Now I have this inner peace like I have never experienced.

Financial reasons are the most common causes of divorce on America. Money means more to people than an actual life long commitment these days. I think most marry with unrealistic expectations and when things finally get a little bumpy and the honeymoon period ends, they can't deal...
